Need advice on fixing ATX transmission leak

I posted in the open forum about a couple of things, one of them being a tranny fluid leak coming from the front seal area. What kind of steps can I take to slow it or stop it? Will stop leak do anything, it will drip a small drop every couple of seconds. It's been sitting up for a couple of months and now this happens. Now that it's leaking, if I continue to drive it will it get a lot worse or what? I've never had a car leak as bad as I saw it do today so I'm unsure about what to do. I know for sure that I will try to sell it again but with this problem, I may have trouble. ANY advice would be appreciated.

Whe you first parked the car, did it leak?

When I picked up my car, I drove it home for 3 hours....when I got it home, it was leaking tranny fluid from the front seal...at a pretty good rate too.

First thing I did was got under there with some spray nine and cleaned the underside up to determine where the leak was coming from.

Next, I placed a clean bucket under there over night measure the amount of fluid loss.

Lastly, once the car was drivin for a week or so, the leak went away. I have driven it 25k since without a drop.

If in doubt, take it to a tranny shop. They'll tell you quickly what is wrong...

I've been driving it since Sunday and haven't noticed it leaking until today. It's hard to imagine it leaking for a while and then stop leaking all together, should I keep it off the road or is it safe to drive?

WHen you say front seal area, do you mean from the front of the pan, or between the tranny and engine?

I ditto what Solid says and get up under there with some cleaner to get that gunk out. Then let it sit and see where exactly the source is. If it is the pan, just do a tranny filter and gasket and replace with new fluid. If it is something else, run it to the tranny shop and see what they say.

As for driveability, it would depend on the rate of leakage. A few drops isnt bad, just keep a close eye on the level. Be sure to check the level when the car is running and tranny in park after it has warmed up.

I think the problem with mine was that the seal had dried out a little bit. And I was hammering it home that day (never really driven aanSHO before that day). Once the seal oiled itself, it sealed back up again and all was good...

I would do this:

Drop the tranny pan, change the gasket, filter, and get some good fluid in there. Go to your local auto parts store and pick up a bottle of Lucas Tranny Additive or what ever its called. This stuff is gauranteed to stop all leaks and slipping. They make a good product and not only should the above steps fix your issue but they will definitely make the tranny not only shift better, but last a **** of alot longer. SHOs are always thirsty and will treat you better if your take care of their fluids thumb . After all this is done, relax, watch some tv, and have a beer on me.

It is leaking between the engine and tranny for sure. I picked up some Bar's stop leak today but I may get some Lucas tomorrow. And no, it never leaked this bad before, it sort of came from nowhere.

What ever came of this fix? I'm experiencing this, right this second. I fixed the leaks from the lines to the radiator and now after that's done, this BS pops up. headbang Never had it leak there before and along with it, I'm having 3 new oil leaks as of today also. In three different F'ing spots. Total puddles under the car = 4

Having another SHO to drive during these times = priceless thumbup

Okay, I've been mad at this car and decided if it's going to be/act like a POS, I'm going to treat it like one and also no one replies. So, I cleaned the surfaced and squeezed a crap load of RTV. We'll see how it holds up and I'll post back so at least the "search" everyone tells newbies to do will be useful as it wasn't for me.

Results = worked for me. Still have a problem though and damn does that ATX look harder to drop then my MTX which I've took out many times. eek!
