Injectors-What works and what does not? I realize that V8 inj's have some specific charachteristics and I recall reading an article online about bigger injectors that will work(demensions wise).

Try reaching Carter (ArkanSho). He has alot of experience with his sc GenIII that should be helpful.

Here are some turbo's on ebay right now: Item number:

T3/4 - Buy it now - $400 - 8024553020

62-1 - Buy it now - $739 - 8024918793 ( This guy has some nice deals, and all parts are new, warranteed) has .96 A/R, a little on the big side

60-1 HIFI - Buy it now - $689 - 8024918855 (same guy as above) This is the same compressor I had on my car, only mine was a T3 turbine. Also a .96 A/R, but with a smaller roatating assembly then above turbo, and with the extra airflow of your 3.4 L V8, this would be a nice turbo

T3/T04E - 60 trim - Buy it now $709 - 8024918898 - This would be an ideal turbo

This guy (vecco.net) always has some good deals, and he deal directly with Turbonetics. I would always be leary of buying a used turbo of the internet. Escpecially when a new, waranteed unit can be had at these prices. It costs a few hundred dollars to rebuild a turbo, so if you buy a used one and it goes bad soon, you will be out about the same as if you bought a new one. PLus, the peace of mind is nice.

The first problem with changing injectors on the V8 SHO is that the length of every single other higher rate injector (whether design 3 or not) is too long, and will require machining the lower manifold to allow them to fit, and there is only a finite amount of material that can be removed from the lower manifold, and it's important to maintain the original angles between the rail, injectors, and lower manifold or else you'll get leaks.

The second problem is the girth of the upper half of the injector for a lot (but not all) higher rate injectors. If you've looked at the V8 fuel rail, you'll see it's chromed and there are little cups for each injector. In order to make injectors that are wider than stock fit in the cups, the cups themselves must be machined, but even then there's not a lot of meat to work with, maybe .030" or so can be removed. The larger problem is machining the chromed surface. Once the cups are machined, the chrome is removed and now creates a path for corrosion to creep under the chrome on the inside of the rail risking having chrome flakes break off and clog injectors or the FPR. Ideally, you should have the rail de-plated first, then have it machined, and then have it re-plated or just paint the exterior without touching the mating surfaces or internal rail.

Huh, that's seems like a hassle. Perhaps with only 5psi, a fuel enrichment setup combined with Doug's(FPS) forced induction flash will provide the proped mixture. I already have the Xcal1 with a 93oct flash and Doug has the program. I suppose I'll try to give FPS a call and see how they run thier '96 with 30#ers. I realize that going much over 90% duty cycle on the injectors will fry transistor drivers and even short them causing a cylinder to fill with fuel and make custom conn rods. -Thanks for the info!

Toolman, what is required to set up an Ebay account? I don't have a credit card, just an Email.

You don't need a credit card to join ebay. Many sellers will accept money orders, cashiers checks, and a few will take a personal check. It will just take a little longer for the payment to reach the seller and you might have to wait until the funds clear before they will ship the item. If it's not stated in the ad, you can always email the seller and ask if your preferred method of payment is acceptable.

I recently was speaking with a friend who said that eBay is now requiring a credit/debit card to sign up. Apparently they are using it for identity verification only, probably to attempt to reduce the number of ghost accounts a lot of people have.

I spoke to Carter on this and it seems that a 5 to 6psi boost level will work with the stock fuel system along with some type of FMU.

I've been looking into this for a while and here is what I have for a parts list:

*Garrett GT37 (GT3782) Journal Bearing turbo
*Vortech FMU (10:1 ratio)
*Turbonetics Deltagate wastegate with 3# and 5# springs
*Turbonetics Raptor BOV
*AlkyControl progressive alcohol injection kit
*Misc Aeroquip fittings and braided stainless hose
*Innovative LC-1 stand alone wide-band kit
*Misc exhaust pipe and bends
*K&N air filter
*Misc electronic parts and wiring to relocate MAF and front fuse box
*Battery box and related parts to place bettery in trunk
*Heat insulating wrap and reflective adheasive insulation for affected areas
*Lots of fabrication time
*New mufflers and 3" exhaust
*3" electric exhaust dump for fun
*various gauges:boost,fuel press,EGT,oil press,trany temp
*large tranny cooler to help tranny life
*a little luck :thumb:

I also have a set of Lumina Z34 hood vents I'm going to try to get to fit on a used hood I have to help with under hood temps.

I have set a budget of $3,500 for the entire project. Most of the items above I can get very cheep (dealer cost is nice) and all of the fabrication I'm going to tackel my self. Should be a fun project.

Here is a pic of my last turbo project. I build the down pipe, exhaust and custom A2A intercooler set up for my Typhoon.

Brian, the Typhoon looks good. It look's like you have a project on your'e hands as well. I was originally planning to run the setup under the hood with a wrx CAC in place of the appearance cover and IMRC motor but that proved to be very difficult as far as plumbing goes. I decided to mount the turbo just behind the rear suspension and run intake piping all the way up to the engine bay similar to a STS turbo setup.
I was weary of the STS remote mounted setup until I had seen it on a Firebird. The WS6 put down 289hp skock then 385hp after the STS system was installed at 5psi.
My goal is 300whp. Should be a good time.

It's personal message. Sort of like a small shoforum personal email account within the website. Click on his user name in the upper left corner of his post and a drop down with personal message will be an option. Select that and type him a message. Very handy.

whats the difference between the T04 E and T04 B?

For that matter with regards to the B model what is the difference between the SH and SV? I tried looking but could not find anything on their site.

thanks

T4 is the size of the Turbine housing ******. E or B, I think is either the designation of the compressoor wheel or the turbine wheel...I may be wrong. I'm sure someone knows for sure though.

BTW, if you havn't already, RT-36 from Boulder to Estes Park then Highway 7(St. Vrain) back down to Boulder is an awsome drive in a SHO!

What he said. T4 is the turbine housing. E vs B, I could not really give you specifics. I just know that the E's seem to be the higher flowing of the two.

I have and it is a superb drive, you are in AZ, might I ask how you know about that? Also, if you take I-70 west to Lookout mountian the drive up to Buffalo Bills grave and down to golden is one of many twist and turns and switchbacks, lots o fun as well.

also thank you both for clarifying the E B thing, any thoughts on the SH SV designation?

I looked at the "Turbo Matrix" and now see what you mean. Since the designation changes along the horizontal grid of 3.5L as horsepower level increases, I would guess it has something to do with the compressor trim.....pretty vauge tho.

-I bought my SHO in Co. I lived in Boulder and my girlfriend lived in Estes so I would come see her just to make that trip HA!(of course she diddn't mind) No, never drove to Golden...:( I miss driving in Co. altogether. The closest I get here in Az. is a Highway interchange.
