how hard is it to do a valve lash adj. for someone who isn't that mechanical? should I pay $250(only labor!) for a mechanic to do? Or should I go to shonutperform. and get the parts and do it myself?
I need to decide by tomorrow if I want to done by next week. thanks

That depends on your level of motivation. $250 labor is not too much IF the mechanic is familiar with the SHO engine. By the time you buy the gasket set and the shim/tool rental, you'd be looking at around $500, plus any expense to cover additional items found (there always are).

If the prospect of saving $250 is enough to motivate you to read all the excellent posts here by Scott, ask hime to send you his procedure, get your hands on the parts, and go for it. You don't HAVE to be a nuclear engineer to do this stuff, ya know.
