Whats this guy? Its on the top of the motor near where the throttle body would be.. Also, when i was putting my intake manifold back together, i noticed that the vacume lines to the secondaries were broken... Where, if at all, can i get replacements?

That is the PCV tube from the top of the motor into the base of the throttle body. It vents the crankcase.

You can get vacuum hose for the secondaries just about anywhere.

And about that crank vent hose...in that picture it's attached to the so called "oil separator" that resides in the "V" of the motor.

The stock separator doesn't catch all of the oil from the hot gases coming out of the crankcase, but the next coolest part in the path sure does. That unfortunately is the intake tract of the motor. That is why it gets so gummed up with oily, gritty black sludge.

If you're not in an inspection state, do you and your Yammi a favor and not hook that hose back up to the bottom of your throttle body.

You have to cap off the right-angle fitting on the bottom of the TB if you don't re-connect that hose. Or pull the fitting out of the TB and tap the hole for a pipe plug.

Yea. i was going to find something to cover it with.. On my old explorer SOHC i put a breather tube on the passenger valve cover and used a bottle cap to plug the hole on the inlet tubing for the intake!! Very ghetto but workable!! :)

If one disconnected that hose from the throttle body, would you just vent it to the atmosphere, or to a small breather filter (if one could be found)?

Just vent to the atmosphere. You could put a breather on it if you really wanted to though...

...but letting it vent into the air, wouldn't that just leave oil residue all over the engine bay?

Not if there's no way to force it out of the block. The intake sucks it out, so disconnecting from the intake just vents the block to atmosphere. That's not quite as good as sucking it out.

An alternative is to make a real-live catch can, hook that up to the intake, so that the intake still ventilates the block but the oil stays in the catch can.

Or you can do like Jason did and do a jet vent into the exhaust. The exhaust velocity then sucks it into the exhaust stream where it gets burned off (or where you don't care what happens to it, at least it's not goorking up the intake).

On The Other Woman, both crankcase openings vent to the atmosphere through a small fuel filter to keep out dust, dirt and bugs.

I don't suggest doing this before the mufflers like I did. There is just too much back pressure and when my valve failed, I blew a rear main seal out :)

The only time your'e sucking vapors out of the block is during part throttle. At wot there is no vacuum to suck the vapors out.
I have my line directed under the car, right behind the steering rack. The only way you could fill the engine bay with oil residue is if your engine is very hurt.

I may be up for a little road trip and some motor work. I've never had a motor out either, but I may be some help. Maybe make a post in the NebSHO section, set a date and see if you can get a few other people to come as well.
