OK so I pick up this new 94 ATX 100k some miles off a dealer lot few days ago. Car is in good shape but I don't know the history. They accepted it as a trade in for a new Acura so I figure it's well taken care of. Yesterday I'm vacuuming out the car and under the seat I find a $20 bill, 3 french fries, some change, and a ziploc baggie with 3 odd parts in it! Here's a pic off my phone of the things in the bag:
346899%3B44%7Ffp33%3B%3Enu%3D3275%3E685%3E%3A%3B3%3EWSNRCG%3D32336754%3C%3A%3C34nu0mrj

OK, so I figured the thing on the left is the jumper plug to the cassette radio because the car has the slave CD. The middle one I think is an LPM but I don't really know as I really don't know much about them. The thing on the right I have absolutely no clue what it is but it seems to be a bracket of some kind. Now I wanna know for sure that the left item is indeed the jumper so I go pull the radio and find out that the CD unit wasn't originally part of the system but was added on at some point as the harness is spliced into the main radio harness, so it is the jumper. Also I notice there is a coiled wire spliced into the radio's ACC and ground wires. It looks like it could belong to a cell phone charger. I try to trace where it goes to find out it's not attached to anything and the end is cut off where there are 2 wires, red and black. Now I look down where the cassette cubby is and see 2 holes where it looks like something was screwed in and reach into the holder to find 2 small black screws and a washer loose in there. So it looks like something was mounted in there - could be anything from a cell phone, performance monitor module, guage, satellite radio, anything. Then I decide to look a little into the car (figuring it may have had some mods from this) and from what I can tell from a surface glance over it has F+R STBs, lowered suspension with Koni's, a K&N drop in, and aftermarket fogs (only things I can notice obviously at the moment). Now since I figure the chip is an LPM, there must be/were other mods done to the car but there is no way I can find out what they were/are until I pull things apart which I don't have the time for right now. For all I know it could've had a supercharger on there and it was taken off before the trade in. It could help being able to find out what parts are/were on it, that way I'll know if I really have to start taking things apart to find out if they are still on there (like if I could tell easy if it had a bigger MAF or if I would have to pull stuff to find out if it has cams thru the LPMs programming). I don't wanna just plug the chip in for fear that it might throw codes all over the place and put my car outta whack if it has the wrong tuning for the current setup if anything was changed. On top of that I have no idea where to plug it in. There's a sticker on the chip that has "D44180" or "Duu180" handwritten on it:
346899%3B44%7Ffp346%3Enu%3D3275%3E685%3E%3A%3B3%3EWSNRCG%3D32336754%3C%3A%3C35nu0mrj

Now what is the last bracket? I wonder if it could be for the chip but it doesn't look like they fit together. It could be for mounting something else but it doesn't match up to the holes in the holder. Here's another angle:
346899%3B44%7Ffp344%3Enu%3D3275%3E685%3E%3A%3B3%3EWSNRCG%3D32336754%3C%3A%3C36nu0mrj

OK so now I have a few questions since I have no experience with LPMs and any help would be greatly appreciated:

Is the middle item indeed an LPM?
If so, is there any way I can find out what it's programmed for from the code on it?
If I can find out it's programming, where/who can I go to or what can I do to find this information out?
Where/what does it plug into? (should I just go right ahead and plug it in? safe to do so?)
And lastly, does anyone know what that bracket thingy is/for?

Thanks much for any and all help! :hail:

That does look like one of the older ribbon style LPMs

The bracket is related. It's the bracket that is used to hold the EEC in place. Ive never used an LPM, but you might have to remove the bracket to install the LPM.

I do know that once a chip or piggy-back (tweecer) is installed onto the EEC, that bracket is very fun to reinstall. Not surprising the previous owner left it out ;)

That's a SHOShop LPM. Unless Ted puts "D4U180" on his as well. It is the older ribbon style, which usually doesn't work with Gen2s.

Given the markings on the EEPROM's label, I would have to agree with Kenny, Sean and SHOSIG above and surmise that it is a SHO Shop LPM programmed for a '94-'95 D4U1 ATX computer and, at the least, an 80mm Mark VIII MAF. If it were an LPM programmed by Ted Breaux, the label would be prefixed with his initials "TAB".

Not without having someone read it for you - see my next reply below.

The only person in the SHO community that I know of who might do this for you (besides myself in a few weeks when my LPM reading/burning service has been officially launched) would be Ted Breaux, who can be reached at [email protected].

The LPM itself plugs into the J3 service port on the back of your engine's computer, which should be easily viewable from the passenger-side floorwell by dropping the glovebox and looking towards the back of the firewall (above the black, plastic HVAC housing).

That said, I would not recommend plugging the LPM into your PCM until you've had a chance to verify your LPM's programming and document all of the modifications that may be present on your SHO.

As Kenny mentioned, that white bracket is a factory piece for securing the PCM to the underside of the dash. Most people with an aftermarket chip/LPM/TwEECer will not be able to reinstall the bracket in it's original position due to the space taken up by said aftermarket chip device. One possible solution to this problem is to flip the bracket upside-down and slide it over the right (vacant) side of the PCM next to the J3 port, allowing the bottom of the bracket to rest against the top of the HVAC housing. Doing this will not only allow you to reuse the bracket, but it will also provide the PCM with the proper structural support.

thanks alot guys for all your help! I am swimming in murky waters when it comes to these LPMs, they're not like the chips i'm used to. looks like i'll have to do a little digging into the history of the car and find out if the chip is still useable. if it is, then i just scored a free LPM and a whole other mess of parts I hope as I paid under 2 grand for what looks like it's in extremely good shape! thanks again and may the sho gods all rain blessings down on you :hail:

bump... axianator, you got your chip burning services up yet? I just scored an LPM for an MTX and I have two ATXs... and yes, how much does SHObros want for a reburn?
