The round silver part has gotten pressed down, locking it. You need a trunk key to unlock that part - its keyed the same as the trunk.

You can get around it, but its a fair piece of work. The bracket that contains the lock assembly is bolted to the floor pan of the car - you will need to unbolt that and iirc there is a way to manually unlock the lock asm from the back side.

When I bought the white car, it had no trunk key. Had a locksmith come out, and he made one from the glove box tumbler. FWIW, it cost $174

Remove the little cover and use a screwdriver to unlock it by inserting it into the side and wiggleing. Might take you 5 minutes...tops.

I explained how to get a matching key made up in post #3. You could save the cost of the at-home service charge ($50, IIRC) by tyaking out the glovebox tumbler and taking it to a locksmith. They can make a key to fit. Then just get copies made.

I would keep the trunk locking mechanism. IMO that was a slick idea on Ford's part.

Once you get it open, I'd recommend lubricating the locking mechanism with WD-40 and oiling the trunk's weatherstripping. I was having issues with my lock as well and it turned out to be a combination of old, sticky weatherstripping and a dirty lock mechanism that was keeping my trunk closed.

If you have the keyless entry keypad, use the code to open it.
In most cars, the back seat can be removed letting you reach the lock mechanism with a screwdriver.

Beleive it or not, not all 1/2 gen SHOs have keyless...

I could be wrong, but i think he said *if*! :)

I would still recommend getting a copy made.. you will thank yourself later.. I may need to get a new lock for the trunk because the key doesnt like to go in... BUT, if you have the keyless and your battery doesn't die, youll be ok.

holy crap is that real?

Yup. The only way to disable it is to pull the module. Then keyless doesn't work though.

My anti-theft mechanism is to drive around in a 21 year old car. In my area, the market for stolen parts would be, well, pretty much me :)

It worked for me. I would have found mine in about 2 minutes.

I went HERE.

Then, I used the "Find" function of the web browser to see if my code was on the list, and sure enough it was.
