My tire exploded!

On the freeway this morning.. cruising along when uh.. well here are some pics..

It was quite impressive.


fender liner, insulation, and hood release cable all torn up.




threw a spare on, the fender is a wreck, has dents all over it from the inside, bumper cover is broken, missing the fender cladding 24valve emblem dissappeared, and the skirt is half gone.. the hood was on the safety latch when I stopped, good thing I hadn't moved the c/f hood from my '93 over.. might have flown up and cased even more problems.

Will you gonna do something with the tire company ? I mean, it's not normal for a tire to explode on the freeway and cause that much damage. I will myself ask them to pay for their bad tire and the damage it caused to the car. My 0.02

id like to know that too im assuming 65-75 (highway speeds)? Glad to see your alive especialyl since it was the front tire. How bad was it to control when it blew? Id also liek to know which tires not to buy as well.

Roughly 6pm Monday. If I were you I'd bid on the inner fenders on Ebay. The present bid's about 10 bucks and shipping is 15$. The bidding ends at 17:51 PDT.

was going 85ish.. still had control of the car, although the brakes worked like the car was on ice!!! I saw where it happened yesterday, tread was on the center island then two skidmarks from the #2 lane out to the #3 lane, although the left mark only had two small marks from the sidewalls

I'm not going to need any parts.. not sure what I'm doing with the car.

I had a front blowout at about 55mph on my old Cougar, but it didn't do any damage to the car. I didn't have a spare but luckilly I had my mom's donut (she had a 93, I had a 90) It's funny because she was harping on me to give her donut back in case she had a blowout somewhere, thank GOD i still had it. I was an hour away from home.

I had that happen on yokohama's. The tire was slightly too big and wore a groove on the inside shoulder of the tire form the unibody(only in tight turns - there was no sound or smell of burning rubber, just a 3/4" by 3/4 inch groove in the inside shoulder of the tire). Structural integrity of the tire was shot so when it went flat, it blew all over the place.
