My SHO is gone, lucky to be writing this.

Hi all,

My final day driving the SHO may have already come. On Saturday night I was in a car accident with a BMW that resulted in my car being totalled. Details are still in the pending stages, but the realty of the fact is that this car will most likely never drive again. All parties are ok, and left with nothing but a few scratches. This is most important.

Myself and the other driver were sited for driving to endanger, yet this is only true in the other drivers scenario. Unfortunately I was going faster than the posted speed limit ( I say about 50 in a 35, the other driver faster.)

The car took out a light pole and some street signs , this took out most of the rear end and bumper along with the drivers wheel well.

I dont know if I can get behind the wheel of another SHO or not.

Not to be insensitive, but tell me where I'm wrong.

That is the rotary at the end of the Lynnway at the Nahant causeway.
That means that you can not enter the rotary safely above 35-40mph.
You were heading past the Porthole towards Nahant and Swampscott.
You were going too fast entering the rotary.

Not wanting to be jumping the gun, although I am, how in the world could you have NOT been driving recklessly to have this happen? The only way I can think of is that the BMW ran you off the road. Am I right in any of these assumptions?

I do want to say that guilty or not, I am very glad to see you OK and by no means do I think you deserve any of this. But I've been trying to run every scenario through my mind as to how this would happen innocently.

Jeez tom, sorry to hear. I hope everything works out ok. Let me know if I can do anything to help. IE: finding you a new car or getting this one top dollar.

That's about the jist of it. The BMW was in the right lane moving into the middle at the same time Tom was in the left moving into the middle. The BMW clipped the rear quarter of Tom's car just enough to get the rear end loose at the start of the turn.

Hi all,

Thanks for your words of concern. It is appreciated and comforting.

This is a bad situation, thankfully one that all were able to walk away from. The car can be replaced, the lives could never be. So, I am walking away in a proactive manner, not a reactive.

I was doing 50 MPH, and this is were I am at fault. I was more or less run off the road, forcing my car sideways and up over the curb. This is my first accident, and God willing my last. I thank a higher power for allowing all to be ok.

I have been running this through my head countless times, and at the end of every run there has yet to be one time I've felt good about it. Accidents happen and I feel no anger towards the other party. I feel as if I have already walked away from this ahead of the game, any more will be more than deserved. You always play the "what if" and "if this, if that" and this isn't the way to cope. I have given advice to others on this forum, and an am open to criticisms. Just understand I know the severity of the situation and and living with the consequences, not dealing with them.

I may be in need of some help from forum members in the near future so don't be surprised to find a pm here or there.

Well then, I'm even more sorry to hear about that. It's unfortunate. It's funny that before BMW became the exclusive marque it is today, it was the company that built vehicles for the enthusiast. It's too bad that now, more often than not, they are driven by idiots.
