My black 90 is on its 4th alternator in the last year. They always fail the same way - the voltage regulator dies. In each case the diode is still operational. Each alternator lasts 2-3 months. The battery is new and reads 12.5v, and reads about 13.5v when the engine is running. Syptoms of failure include erratic dash lighting, radio and climate control shuffling on and off, etc. Then one day I get a low bat light and I know my alternator is shot.

Battery terminals are clean and in good condition.
I disconnected my sound system for the time being, no change.
Ive replaced the ICRM with a new one, no change.
Ive checked most of the wiring in the engine bay - everything looks good.

Suggestions, opinions are welcome. Im headed out west in a few weeks and I'd like to get the car in ship shape.

thanks
silas
