my 92 mtx sho feels a ton faster when i have been driving on E for about 2 days. The enigne seems to run alot better and the car seems to accelrate alot quicker. If im 1/4 full the car feels good but onece i get down to the E the cvar feels fast as lightning, is there any reason for this or an i just halucinated. ive taken in consideration weight but ive ruled it out.

Well, gas weighs approximately 6 lbs. per gallon, so a full tank weighs about 111 lbs. Reduce that to the 2-3 gallons you have in the tank when on 'E' (about 12-18 lbs.), and you've lightened the weight of the car by almost 100 lbs. That's a pretty significant weight reduction, so it could very well account for the improved performance.

Your fuel pump is also going to hate you for running with such low fuel, it is cooled by the gas in the tank, with the fuel so low it will cause it to run hotter than normal.

Just a thought, it isn't the weight loss from the emptying gas tank that makes you actually go faster(which it does to a small degree), but the weight reduction on the springs that makes it seem like you are going faster.

Well you know how accurate Ford's gauges are. The gas gauge is good for tell you that the tank is full. It is not linear in it's ability to report the amount of gas in your gage.

When my low fuel light comes on I have over 5 gallons left. Maybe your gauge is even goofier?

I understand your perception. I do not feel that my car can go fast enough when I am full of gas! rangerj
