I have a 1993 atx and the brakes were shit when I got the car I replaced lines and calipers and rotars and they were workin fine for a good 3 months.. Then today I started up car and put in drive cause I was in a rush I did it real fast usually I feel this kinda weird thing with the brake pedal like it "turns on" a few seconds after you start the car and put it in drive just slight feeling.. Well I put it in drive real quick and I didn't feel that. Now when I'm coming up to stop it feels like good pedal.. then gets easy for a half inch to an inch or so then the brakes are back nice and strong ?? But if I pump them once right before I stop it doesn't do that. Anyone have an idea? I haven't looked at anything yet, it's raining out I don't really know what it is proportion valve? idk.. maybe someone else can understand my bad description sorry I did my best  Thanks

I think I get what you're saying, and I'm experiencing the same thing.

I have to push the pedal down much farther than usual but if I pump it once before coming to a stop it's fine. I tried bleeding the brakes and no difference, no noticeable bubbles either.

Vacuum leak in the brake master cylinder perhaps?

From what you're describing, it sounds like you have a vacuum problem or a brake fluid leak. You may want to check the pressure switch mounted to the master cylinder. There was a recall for this because it leaks fluid (and can start a fire) on the ATX's. Was the recall for this ever performed?

glad I'm not the only one.. maybe someone will be able to fix both of our problems.. Did yours come randomly too? Or do you remember doing anything different? Also when u start it up and press the brakes for the first time to put it in drive do you experience that little "brake turn on"?

Isn't there a site to check if the recall was done? If I knew the site and the exact name of the recall ure talking about I'll check it out. Thanks for your interest and help

sounds like bubbles in the ABS system... or an internal fluid leak (leaking past the MC piston).

Doesn't the ABS do some short little cycle or something when you turn on the ignition? If I start my car with my foot on the brake, I feel a single slight pulse in the pedal, which I thought was normal. I'm not sure though, just think I remember reading it before. Does that sound similar to what you described as the pedal turning on, IM Buddy?

yup, sounds identicle.. it's hard to describe but I knew people that experienced it would knwo what I'm talking about... but the brakes worked fine when it used to do it I don't think it's doing that anymore I"ll check tomorrow for sure but I think that little cycle thing I used to feel.. is gone :S
