Well, my ABS light has been coming on - sometimes after about a minute of driving, sometimes after about an hour. I tried resetting the connections for the relays, but to no avail. Broke down and got a Ford Code Reader from Canadian Tire for $26.86 (they matched Wal-Mart's price as I despise that store) and read my codes.

34 - Left Rear Wheel Sensor
38 - Left Rear Wheel Sensor Erratic Output
78 - Left Rear Wheel Sensor Erratic Output

So, it looks like it is my left rear wheel sensor. This is the one on the driver's side rear, correct? If so, I will first check to see if the connection might be poor, otherwise will be replacing the sensor.

svtman,
since all the codes are from the left wheel check the wiring for frays and the connector for corrosion. but before you pull the wheel off check for any play in the wheel bearing. often it is a bad hub bearing that causes those codes because it allows the exciter ring to kind of move back and forward causing it to hit the sensor and then cause even more damage. also look close at the ring as it could also be damaged and cause the codes. there are test for the sensor. juast do a search on it and i'm sure you'll find something. all of my resources are at the shop and this is my day off (sorry). hope this helps at least a little

Thanks,

I checked the wiring and it is pinched in one spot, but have not yet ripped open the plastic to see if the wires are compromised. Sure seems like a long wire as it disappears into the floor of the car with no connection. I'll have to do a search and see if I can test the sensor. The wheel and bearing are in good shape so it is probably either the wiring or the sensor.

SVTMAN.
I have a actron code reader that says it will read the abs codes. the problem is it doesn't give the how too.

Short of connecting to the connector, what is the next step.

Is there a key on or off procedure?

Any help from anyone would be appriciated.

Well - I finally got tired of watching the ABS light come on - sometimes after driving for an hour - sometimes immediately. I went to an auto recycler and proceded to take a rear ABS sensor off a wrecked Taurus Wagon with rear discs and ABS. It was a ***** to get off, but finally got it and replaced my sensor. After two weeks of driving, the problem seems to be cured. Best of all, I replaced the useless hollow space below my deck with a coin/cup holder out of the same SLO wagon - both parts for $25. Much better than the $80+tax that I was quoted at a jobber for just the sensor.
