Ok i realize that this topic has been brought up a bagellllllllen times.

Everbody seems to like other brands and series.

My first question is what size muffler do i need to purchase. I like the Flowmaster 50 series but i do not know what size i need. (i called flowmaster and they have no clue either)

My last concern is how loud will the 50 series compare to the factory version.

I replaced a muffler set up on a 1988 Porsche with a bursch "quiet", they could be heard from miles away, if i was on the gas.

My mechanic said the glass pak version was too load for street version and most home area would not be happy with the noise.

Is there anybody in INDY that has replaced ther muffler? I would love to here them sometime.

any help would be great.

As long as you get the mufflers with 2.25" diameter offset/offset inlet/outlet you should be fine. Length and width should not be a problem unless the aftermarket muffler is bigger, which I do not see happening.
As far as sound goes, the Flows are the way to go if you want big sound. If you want mellow but throaty, go with Borlas. Unfortunately I am a college student with limited funds, so I just got mufflers. I absolutely love the sound. Quiet at idle, then open up as the RPMs climb. thumb

I have the Flowmaster 40 Series on mine. Im not sure what size they are. I took my car to the muffler shop and they installed them for me. I didnt have to order them. I was lucky and found a flowmaster dealer. If anything call around and see if any muffler shops deal with flowmaster and this wayall ya gotta do is pay to have them installed. I paid 200.00 even out the door for mine.

Showstopper:
Bought a Borla system from FPS in Atlanta. Had it installed here in Birmingham. Easy install, wonderful sound.

Any idea how easy? Like, DIY easy? I can get a cat-back Borla system for my Jag for under $500 (w00t!), but I'd like to do it myself if possible! Thanks!

I am going to agree with Showstopper. I got the Borla cat-back and am very happy! If you can handle the price, it is the way to go. It is very,very easy to install. The toughest part was getting the old one off. headbang If you or someone else needs to know I can explain how to do it easy. thumb The system looks awsome,the tips even look good on the car,the sound, all I can say is I look like this when I drive my SHO thumb , and I could even tell by the seat of my pants a performance improvement. And that is even with the third cat still on. I will remove the third cat here sometime and I think my smile will be even bigger, if thats possible.

I got glass packs on mine. Look and sound great, not too loud, don't think I would ever replace them.

Do you guys think the wife will notice if the mufflers are replaced. (mags or flowmaster)

I did not tell her about the 911 exhaust replacment. She noticed imediatley and was somewhat unhappy about my purchase.

The normal wife issues, i am hoping to have them installed someday while she is out of town.

any thoughts , will she notice?

Personally, I tend to disagree when people say the borla cat back is an easy install. I would not even attempt to install mine. A local muffler shop installed it for $50 and it didn't matter how long it took or what they had to do. It took them a little over an hour and they needed to add a few hangers that were missing. These guys were not having an easy time with it. On the other hand, I have installed a few borla exhausts on other vehicles with little or no trouble. As for the price, I paid no where near $800 for mine. Two years ago I purchased it direct from Borla. They told me the exhaust was the last in the warehouse so they came me an unreal deal that was much less than $800.
