Dear Shoforum members, I need your help. My mufflers need to be replaced. Im interested in Flowmasters, but don't know if I should go factory inlet size, I believe 2" or go larger at 2.5 with adapter. Also need new exhaust tips, but don't know what length to get. Sincerely, Edward

What Gen SHO do you have? Im sure they are different in size and sound...I have a Gen1 with Flowmaster 3 chamber on stock pipes 2" and it sounds great at idle but horrible going down the road! i bought the car with them on hteir and cant get them off fast enough! I would suggest going with a Magnaflow or an Edlebrock or Borla ....something with more of a small motor performance pedigree...that's my $ .02

Hey, thanks for your 2 cents. I have a Gen2 with stock exhaust. I'm grateful for your advice as I did order Flowmaster Delta 40, but have not received them yet. I will return for sure. Borlas would be nice. Is there a particular one that would fit and sound ok?

Unfortunately i do not have the part numbers for the original Borla kit on the 89-95 SHOs...I reached out to Borla directly on this but was given a very stern "NO" as to whether they would give me the original part numbers to make a kit...but anyway, i myself have my heart set on Borla so I will be building my own. That being said...my plan was to start with the Gen4 kit and modify it accordingly to fit as needed. I would suggest to find the part number of the mufflers and intermediate pipe used in Gen4 kit and then build your own. I believe that magnaflow has a "builder kit" that comes with a bunch of pipe bends and segments and you can pick and choose what you need for final assembly... the Gen4 kit is built to handle a 3.4L -V6 so it should have a great sound and moderately good back pressure for the 3.0 or 3.2. That is my plan anyway...hope this helps!

Hey Mike. Thank you for your feedback. I believe you convinced me to install a catback exhaust system. I want my SHO to sound nice, but not too loud. My Mustang is loud! That's more than I can handle. I want this sound to be the yang to my Mustangs ying. Not sure which muffler setup to go with. I'm assuming the Magnaflow is loud.

My personal opinion is the Magnaflows on a SHO are not overly loud. They have a deep tone, but are not obnoxious. It is a different sound than a V8 Mustang, but is sounds related but more refined.

You should not get in trouble with the authorities for noise complaints, and they have the least rasp to attract Hondas.
