The easest is to swap or fix the MTX4 you have.
Many of us on this forum have extra parts available.
Replacing it with an automatic is way to much work.
The T-5 is for RWD applications.

What exactly is wrong with the tranny you have now?

Synchro's are no longer available new, however you may be able to find someone with a relatively healthy MTX for sale. However these too are getting more and more rare.

Retrofitting to an Automatic is not recommended w/o rebuilding it first and that is a very pricy endeavor indeed.

Sam had one for sale not too long ago, check out the SHO marketplace on Facebook for more information.

Good luck

So I have a mercury mountaineer....the thing has a 4r70w and has a computer...so tranny swapp seems out of the question for that vehicle so what obstacles would I have to overcome for a SHO to swap to auto....just wondering cuz there is a sho here that is for sale...which is an MTX...but if I swap it for the ax4s....will it be a huge hassle or an easy swap. I looked on mitchell and a new or rebuilt..not sure...tranny is about 2k....I can settle with an auto...just want an SHO really bad...but I want it stock and wouuld like to restore one...I think the ATX's are interesting...but what should I do? There was an ATX that sold for like 900 bucks and I wish I jumped on it but someone else snagged it....also there is a 92 MTX for 1k obo...but the 5sp is starting to take a dump...3rd gear is not engaging...only 1st and 2nd...not sure about the other gears...but that's what his CL post said. Thanks guys!!!!

Just get the MTX, good used parts can still be found.

We can help get you the parts at SHO Source or you can find some one on SHOCal with the parts.

I can be wrong but, I think the intend for that is for the slicers to act as some sort of cooling fan for each wheel disc brake, but other than that they should bolt up the same. Of course the direction of the slicers would look backward when running.
