Well is the bolt original? This sounds weird. Not the bad threads part, that happens. You may be able to chase the threads and clean them up before going helicoil. When I did my first helicoil on the valve covers it turned out ok so don't worry too much. You can always get a pro if you're too apprehensive.
If I could do it, you can do it. I wasn't born to wrench. I was poor and had to figure it out. That's how I learned most mechanical things. No you tube back then either. You can get a good look and idea online.
If you are not sure that is the original bolt, try Dan Barbush--SvHoDan- and see if he has some parts laying around. You could luck out and get a used bolt for cheap. I would also still consider emailing shosource and Josh at shonutperformance. They have alot more parts and time experience and there is a good chance that item, or its specs, are laying around. Couldn't hurt.
Also, try sending a private message or it's called- start a conversation- with Chad-- Irish Pride maybe he has a way to reference that part or the specs for replacement. Just spitballing for people who may have info available
