Year ago at a local pic a part yard I came across a mtx that apparently had shift rod bosses broken at mtx.

It wasnt great fabbing job, but sure got job done nonetheless.

From what I gather around from people I know and from this forum, there was quite few that had bosses broke on them. The probable cause would be failed motor mounts? correct me if Im wrong.

I was debating if I should go extra mile of prevention by go ahead fab one up, of course better than one shown, eventho' I will have flexane 94 modified motor mount which will be rigid. Would you guys do it?

If the engine and transmission are ever allowed move independent of the floor pan, the shifter handle will move because of the connection of that rod to that mounting boss.

Just because the engine and trans move the shifter doesn't mean the boss will break. Mine broke because a 2000 explorer landed on my core support. In fact, a front end collision (even a pretty light one) + bad mounts (engine or subframe) is usually what breaks those bosses.

mine didn't break, the darn thing shifts so hard that it wallowed out the threads in the aluminum boss. so I built a bracket kinda like the one on that trans.....

Here is the one I make.

By the way, I just started a new company and machine shop JAFTEK Inc. We plan to specialize in custom work. Just got the OK from the city today. We should be up and running in a couple of weeks.

BTW, I still have several SHOrt and SHOrty Shifters left.

Actually my SHO has been sideline for the past 8 months. My new clutch started slipping so I have been driving my Bronco II.

As soon as I get my shop running (2 weeks ), I plan to get back on the road.

I have a Suzuki Samurai shifter in the works.

Nothing new for the SHO.

Samurai shifters are not very strong. They have a pin that breaks regularly, and then you are stuck with a rotating handle. The repairs I have see are just a bit stronger but will also break.

I am in the process of making an unbreakable short shifter for the Samurai. Let's see if it will sell.

I've had to fix a boss that stripped the threads on the trans boss on my first 91' and 93'. I used a heli-coil in both. My 95' had a portion of the boss broken off when I bought it. I have committed blasphemy and converted it to a cable shifter with the solid metal ends from SHOsource. I also plan to chop the shifter handle a bit too. I decided on the cable shifter because I drive hard and since I break stuff with the rod setup, I wanted to give this a whirl.
