I cant get the trans out! It is quite loose, but it just doesnt want to drop all the way out. The only thing that I can see that might be the problem is that the bottom bolt on the starter was stripped and I couldnt remove it, so I was planning on removing the starter with the trans. To me it doesnt seem that there is anything hindering this trans from coming out. But its making me unhappy and I have to get the car done soon....

The starter has to come out as does the y-pipe & subframe. There are a couple of bolts pretty well hidden also, you might check the helms manual to make sure you got them all. If you don't have a helms manual then I'm sure there are a few write-ups or other topics here that can assist you. Try searching the troubleshooting section for MTX removal. ;)

the y-pipe and subframe are out. All bolts are out except for the starter. the trans can be moved moved about 3/4 of an inch away from the engine. I have a Chilton manual and it was very vague as to whether the starter HAD to be removed or not. I suppose I shall work on the stripped bolt in between finals tomorrow..

Yeah, give that a try. When you go to pull the tranny off you have to clear the input shaft so you'll have to move it away from the motor by about 2 inches IIRC.

Good luck!
