I'm having a problem with my 92 MTX SHO. It has been running with no problems for some time, but a couple days ago it wouldn't start. It seemed like the clutch wasn't enaging (about 10k miles on it). Sure enough, the clutch pedal position sensor had come loose. I reconnected it and voila, no problems starting. One day later, I start the car again without problem, but today I tried to start it, but it had the exact same problem. I checked the clutch position sensor, but it was connected this time. I even disconnected the sensor, cut the wires and connected them manually to bypass the sensor, assuming it was faulty, with no luck. I am stumped, does anyone have any ideas what it might be or what I could do? I checked the obvious (fuses (all good), battery (brand new)) and all the gauges come on but the engine doesn't even begin to crank. Suggestions would be great!

1992 Starter Troubleshooting

You should have jumpered the WHITE/PINK wire to the RED/LIGHT BLUE wire to bypass the switch. Any other colored wires are for the cruise disconnect.

Check for power on the WHT/PK wire with the ignition switch in the START position (TAKE NECESSARY SAFETY PRECAUTIONS IN THE EVENT THE STARTER ENGAGES). If none, check the IGN SW/BLWR MTR fuse (50 A) in the under-hood fusebox.

If power is present to the now-bypassed cluth interrupt switch, check for power at the small starter terminal with ignition switch in START. If it is present, check the large, ALWAYS HOT cable for power. If there was no power at the small terminal, trouble shoot open circuit between the clutch switch and the starter.

Before you do any work on those wires, make sure you take that car out of gear!!

Fuse question

Ok, I definitely jumpered the correct wires. I could not find any 50A fuse in the fuse panel under the dash or under the hood. Is it in the panel in the engine bay with all of the other large (30A-60A) fuses? Because I checked all of those, and there were no broken ones, although there was also no 50A fuse I could find, either. Also, what readings should I expect from a multimeter if I test the two wires for power? And what are your thoughts on a remanufactured starter from Autozone instead of a new one from Ford?

Many thanks

Sean
