I started to get a real strong vibration and humming noise one day after a hard 2nd gear shift. I drove the car for probably two thousand miles after this and I wore through a set of front tires on both sides in that time span. The nitto nt450s only had a thousand miles on them.
I just got done tearing apart the transmission I was shocked not to find a chewed up diff bearing. I completely tore apart the differential and it's brand new there was practically no wear on the diff pins. Someone had this trans rebuilt because the ring gear was bolted on.
I know the answer to my question is buy a quaife or wavetrac plus all the tools to do it. I'm just curious what could cause my issues. I'm completely stumped. The pressure plate straps are still good also. I unbolted the clutch and nothing.
Also what can I use to press out the races for the differential? I know there's a special tool, but is there anything else. If I find that tool i'll buy it, i'm just asking. I'm going to start buying the necessary tools and a limited slip diff so I know it's done right. I'm even going to buy a press. Can I use an old race to press the diff bearings on? I think I read this somwhere, but it seems like a very bad idea. thanks
