What is a better fluid for the MTX: Red Line D4 ATF, Red Line MTL or Red Line MT-90?

More specifically a high milage MTX with REALLY worn syncros

I prefer Redline D4 ATF over Mobil 1. However, you're going to have different results depending on which synchros you have in your transmission, how old it is and how long you let the new fluid "break in". (yes the feel usually changes over the course of a week after a fluid swap). If your old fluid is really old and dark chances are good that you'll see an improvement with any new fluid.

For awhile I used to run the Dex/Merc stuff and it worked fine

I run D4 as well, and the fluid isn't that old (about 20000 km). Red Lines web site says:

"Red Line Oil's MTL and MT-90 are designed to provide excellent protection and improved shiftability for manual transmissions and transaxles, having cured the problem of hard shifting in thousands of transmissions with shifting troubles. How? They have the appropriate coefficient of friction for most manual transmission synchronizers (many gear oils, engine oils, and ATFs are too slippery for proper synchro engagement)."

Does anyone know if the MTL or MT-90 are appropriate to run in our MTX's, or if they would help worn syncros?

I've used Mobil One ATF since a rebuild over 50,000 miles ago follwing advice of a very knowledgeable transmission shop who rebuilt it. Since then I have had no problems of any kind. Just don't know if it would help worn transmisson, but it couldn't hurt it.

I am a fan of GM syncromesh.

I have that in my box right now - it is great when it is above 35 degrees outside but when it gets cold my tranny will grind 2nd and 3rd unless I let the car warm up before I drive it. Switching back to Mobile 1 before winter :thumb:

I just change the fluid and put in Red Line MTL. So far it feels a little better that the D4-ATF, but it might be just because it's new fluid. The fluid that came out wasn't too bad, glad I changed it though.

My shop manual says, Motorcraft type "F" or DEXRON II.

I'm a big fan of all the Red Line products.

Royal Purple Max ATF. My 91 has 199k on the tranny and shifts like butter. Eliminated the notchy feeling of missing a gear. Goes into gear much smoother and by going to 2nd and then reverse I have no grind.
