I just wanted to ask a quick question. I'm about to drill/tap/install a drain plug in my mtx and the instructions on shotimes.com say to use a 21/64 drill bit. But why not use a P size drill, its .323 and is actually tighter then a 21/64 and used for tapping 1/8".

Because that's not what the instructions say...

He's probably correct (without running over to the shop to look it up), but the "P" size is not supplied in most drill index kits, so that's probably why they wrote it up with the next closest common bit. It might mean an extra wrap of teflon tape, but hey, who counts the wraps anyway?
BTW there are two common 1/8 " NPT threads, 27 and 28 threads per inch (TPI), I believe. Make sure the plug and the tap are the same, even thoug one can usually fit the other, just binds up sooner.

Do follow the instructions. The procedure really helps prolong the life of the transmission providing you use a good transmission fluid. See the other threads for the transmission fluid.

I did two things when installing the plug:

Use a brass pipe plug. Use teflon tape and it will not leak.

Do not sink the plug. Be sure you can still see a couple of treads.

I can't remember what size bit I used now but I do know that I did a practice hole on a piece of steel about 1/4 inch thick so that I would get it perfect and was able to mark the tap so that I didn't go in to far with it.
