So, my dad was gonna do something nice and get my car fixed for me. The engine would spasm, and I looked at everything to fix it, even oil in the spark plug wells. Turned out to be what I thought it was, electronic. Turns out the two rear motor mounts were breaking and in the engine's movement, broke a computer circuit board in the process.

My dad is used to getting over-exagerated quotes, when he owned the car. For the LCD lights in the climate control system, someone told my dad it would cost $600 to take off the dash and replace them. Turned out the dash didn't need taken off and even if it did, it wouldn't have cost $600 damn dollars anyways.

He says to swap out the electronic board and replace the rear motor mounts it will be in upwards of $1300. Does this sound accurate or total bullsh*t? I know the motor mounts aren't terribly expensive, and I don't know what piece of electronics broke. But how much labor could it cost to repair this???

Also, a mechanic told my dad that the rear mounts wore because of over-torquing, however I really haven't gotten on the engine. If the engine is torquing over, wouldn't the two side mounts take more stress?

Thanks, Addam

$1300 for motor mounts is a ridiculous quote. I don't know what else is broken, but it still shouldn't cost $1300!! That's more money than a clutch job should cost which requires taking the transmission out! I think it might be time to find someone else to get quotes on the car from...

that seems ungodly exspensive. The mounts are near 100 a piece maybe a little more. the labor couldnt take more then a 3-5 hours for a skilled mechanic. I think its BS :bs: As for the electronics im not sure

Run away fast! You can get motor mounts for around $210 or so. What "board" was broken? I find it impossable for the PCM to be damage by engine movement; maybe it was the DIS that was broken? It takes 10 minutes max to change the DIS and a few hours for the average backyard mechanic to change the mounts.

Don't let the mechanic convince your dad that you have been abusing the car, the mounts are very commonly broken, even without modifications or rowdy driving.

IMO, there is no reason why you shouldn't do this work yourself! :thumb:

Someone in or near Kent Ohio please help this person. :) I cannot stand to see anyone being ripped off on car repairs. It's so typical with the "DIS is cracked...that's gonna be $400" I know because that's what my local Ford Dealer quoted me. (I called just for shitsandgrins).

My advice... search here for the parts you know you need. If it is infact the mounts...buy the mounts from shonutperformace or even rockauto, buy the DIS from FordPartsNetwork or I'm sure a member here has one laying around they could sell for under $50. (if that is even the problem), then find a local repair shop you trust to do the repair.

Like I said...someone in the Kent Ohio area please assist! :)

I think I might have a broken motor mount myself. Should the engine move at all when you put your foot on the brake, put it it drive, and press the gas? I get some movement, and the engine I would say rises a few inches, althought I dont have any marks on my intake yet from rubbing on the hood. Does this sound like a broken motor mount also? How many do we have? Thanks.
