While installing my new aluminum SFBs I decided to put in my new rear motor mount. What a PITA! I can't get the old one out. I tried using a jack to lift the motor to give me room to pull it out, but no. I even loosened the front MM hoping this would allow the engine to rise enough, but every time I tried to jack the motor up the whoile car went with it. I don't know what to do.

you'll want to take off the nut from the front mount, and lift the engine up a pretty good height. Then it's sort of a twisting act to get the mount out. Took me about 2 hours front and rear this past saturday, and that included draining and filling the cooling system.

I did. Still couldn't get the engine to raise off the mount. The whole car kept moving with it. Makes no sense. There was nothing holding the mount to the subframe.

You will also need to disconnect the exhaust system at the after-cat ******. The engine should raise without moving the car. How and where are you applying the jack to raise the engine? You should use a block of wood near the edge of the oil pan or risk punching a hole in it. Do you have a strut tower brace that is preventing the lifting of the motor?

Isnt it easier to unbolt the front frame piece and drop that down a long with raising the engine? When I replaced my front mount I was looking at what all would have to be done to remove the rear ones (have yet to do it, and it badly needs it) and it looked like if you unbolted that, that you would have easy access to the mount.

There should be nothing in the way. That's what I don't get. I disconnected the TQ limiters unbolted the front mount to the subframe, completely disconected the whole rear mount to be changed. I am using a ~1' long piece of 2x6 under the oil pan and a hydrolic floor jack. There is not even any flex in the exahust at the y-pipe / cat-back intersection. The only thing that should be holding the engine to the subframe would be the traney mount and I know it's not that strong. I have already replaced the front and traney mount with little problem. The rear doesn't want to move.

Just before I quit on it for the day I set the E-brake and gave it a little reverse tourque to twist the motor forward hoping to seperate it if something was sticking. I haven't had a chance too look at since I did that. Hopefully that may have helped. If it didn't I guess the traney mount is getting the disconnect too and maybe the subframe. That mount is comming out today!

Finally, only after about 8 hrs. Juking the engine like that must have poped it loose. I had to remove the tie rod fronm the knuckle to make room to get it out from behind the engine. Then I couldn't get one of the bolts lined up to go through the mount on installation. After about 2 hrs of finagleing this darn thing to get it in I realized that the way I had the jack set up was pushing the motor forward as well as up. So I spun it around and the bolt went right in. Never again.....

Good night now.
