$219 for the OEM clutch delivered. Sounds pretty decent to me.

Sho Nut's service is awesome too, they are great guys to deal with.

Ford OEM kit, via SHO NUT ($219 to your door). Solid kit, organic disc, real street friendly and holds for a respectable amount of power (275+ ft/lbs torque).

You can also get a how-to video from them that walks you through the install...good luck.

If you get a clutch from SHOnut or not look into their Bearing and the Ceramic upgrade. The bearings are the weak point on the clutch they go out of wack and take the fingers out. Though not in the 20,000 miles of the first run of 89 clutches. They havn't been out for too long but I have yet to hear complaints.

Thanks everyone for your advise. The bearing went through the fingers on mine ...hence the replacement. I will be getting a better than stock T/O bearing from them. I do have one more question, there is a 9.25" clutch on ebay now, would that work for a daily driver if it doesn't get too high in price. I'm not sure if mine ever got the upgraded clutch to 9.75" and don't want to buy a flywheel unless I have to. Thanks agian

The flywheels for the different clutch's are the same, except the later year flywheel is set up for the 9.75" pressure plate (bolt and dowel holes). You could actually machine out an older flywheel to work with the 9.75" PP.

If you take the starter off, if you can see the edge of the PP cover, then it's the 9.75" clutch. The older 9.25" set up used a stamped steel cover, and you can really see it. You'd have to run your finger over the edge of the flywheel to find the edge.

I wouldn't mess with the 9.25" clutch on ebay. It's best left for a museum piece unless you don't mind putting another one in soon after. The 9.25" were way weak for the SHO's engine, and don't hold up long. I bought an '89 last year that still had the 9.25" clutch on it. I lasted 4 days after I took the keys.

The clamping force was weak, and the disc small. The only advantage it had was weight. The stamped PP was light, the later 9.75" PP's are a lot heavier.

If you do end up getting the 9.25" kit off ebay, please weigh it before you install and report the results. I threw away the old 9.25" I had and wanted to weigh it, and never got around to it before I tossed it.

FWIW a newer 9.75" PP on an 8 lb flywheel is probably pretty close in weight (probably a few lbs lighter) compared to the old 9.25" PP on the stock flywheel.

Alright....

I have a 92 and it only has 53K. I thihk the clutch needs to be replaced but am looking for others opinions.

I have to press all the way to the floor...and it's so stiff I can barely stand shifting gears. It is hard to keep from grinding....and impossible in reverse. I almost always turn the engine off to get it into reverse.

Could it just be that the clutch cable needs to be lubed?

red ryder,
You could try lubeing the cable buy I doubt it will help. You have classic symptoms of a gummed up TOB that has chewed through the pressure plate fingers.

What are all the symptoms of a faulty TOB. My clutch was replace 30k ago and my pedal releases much higher than before. I notice some slippage when engaging but am not sure how bad.

Either your clutch is out of adjustment(pull up on the clutch pedal,if it clicks,it`s adjusted. If not,it`s fine).High pedal grip and slipping are signs of the clutch going. It may start slipping in 3rd also.

 I thought my clutch was opposite of that. Just before it went out it released and engaged very close to floor and then the pedal just hit the floor when the bearing buzzed through the fingers(3 mile2 and 5 stoplight from home). Could it be blackhawk60's clutch could be over adjusted ?? I'm not sure and I'm not a mechanic either. it's just an idea! Hope other can help you more !!
