I have searched and researched the Cargo Coil spring subject. I find mention of high ride height with the CC858/CC859 springs installed and cutting one or more coils off the spring to restore ride height. But, the specific posts I find on this topic are fitting the springs to a Gen1 SHO.

My question is does the high ride height apply to a Gen2 car as well? If so, is the same cut down (1 to 1.5 coils) required to restore ride height?

thanks,

Welcome to the forum Robert :)

I am running Gen 2 front coils (one coil removed) and gen 1 rear coils (no-modification) and th ride height is pretty darn near stock.

So to answer your questions, yes, and yes.

Check my sig for MOOG CC info :thumb:

if you have an ATX, it will not be the same as the MTX. and cutting Moog coils on the front doesnt equate to a near stock ride height. aprox lowering value on CC858 with one coil cut is 2".

I have a 1994 ATX with KYB GR2 shocks already on it. I have a broken spring on drivers right. I want to replace both front springs at the same time. I am trying to determine whether I should cut the CC858 springs to obtain stock ride height.

Has anyone put the CC858 springs on the front of a Gen2 ATX car? Is it only the Gen1 cars that exhibit high ride height with these springs uncut?

Nope, I put stock Motorcraft struts with the Gen 2 Moogs on a 93 MTX, and it lifted the damn car to the sky (uncut). The ride was very comfortable though.

The lift was worse (about 5 1/4" fender gap) with the Gen 1 Moogs on the same car, though (got the wrong springs the first time). Since it was a customer's car, I didn't want to be cutting springs, and he didn't want Eibachs, etc. (older gentleman, wanted cushier ride over being lowered).

Robert, I have a '93 ATX and did what Dale (DHMAG) did...cut 1.5 coils from the front and 1 coil from the rear, although to the CC's for Gen II (Front NCP2775236 & Rear NCP2775318 at NAPA).

The car lowered almost exactly 1" at all 4 corners. This replacement was done at about 170k miles, replacing the original springs, struts, bearings, and mounts. I used Tokico struts, by the way.

The car looks a little lower, handling is really good, and my floor jack can no longer get underneath the car! I have to use the original scissor jack to get it started...

Robert, I have a '95 ATX. I recently put on the Moog CC's, along with Monroe Sensa-Trac struts. I cut one coil in the front, and left the rears alone.

The car sits darn near stock height on both ends. Leaving the front coils uncut would definately have resulted in riding high up front! Even taking into account the extra weight of the ATX, cutting the fronts is still the way to go, IMO.

I am quite pleased with the springs, they feel stable and controlled, but not harsh.

So cutting 1.5F/1.0R coils is a 1" drop, 1.0F/0.0R coils is near stock height.

Just what I needed to know, thanks much.
