I have a 93 SHO and need to replace the headliner. It is a mocha or tan color interior. My problem is finding a mocha color headliner fabric. So far the popular color that I find is black. I have looked online and have found some companies selling tan or saddle color but without actually seeing the color I am not comfortable with ordering. What do you guys think of going from the tan headliner color to black? My 94 Mustang has grey interior but with black headliner. Of course the side interior panels are black to help blend in. I wouldnt mind painting some of the side trim pieces black to blend in. Any suggestions?? Thanks

I think it would be alright. I've seen other cars with different color headliners than the rest of the interior.

I would rather go with the mocha but I would hate to see a headliner that is a shade off. I think it would look worse. Would you paint the trim pieces that surround the headliner black?

There are several online stores that have hundreds of shades. The best thing to do it to call them and have them send you a sample of what they say should match.

Yeah, if I cant find a color that closely matches then I will just go the route of black with painting the side pieces to pull the color down.

Are you referring to a brown like shade? That wouldnt be too bad. Actually, I did see a steering wheel on ebay that was tan with a brownish tone in sections of the wheel. I thought it looked rather nice.

You want to see stuff in person and compare in daylight to get a good match. Take a visor out of your car and find somewhere local, Or mail off for samples. An any case I like to keep the colors matching. But if you want black... than you get black. It is your car ;)

I would look for a local trim supply, or trim shop. They should have rolls of materials that you can choose from. Beeing in Michigan you should be able to find some local. Most of my shops materials comes from Kraft Automotive that we have to ship in. http://www.kraftauto.com/headliner.html (donno if it is close to ya or not ;) ) Hope that helps!

Edit. KAG does ALOT of OE headliners... therefore they have EXACT matches to most colors... that is why we use them! Oh, and their material does not de-laminate. Which we have had a problem with in the past.

I like the idea of putting some black in with the mocha interior, I love two or even three tone interiors I myself have been thinking of mixing it up a bit... Let us know how it turns out.
