Word on the street is they can tell it was flashed, but not exactly what was flashed. The dead give away however is if you flashed before taking it in and it hasn't completed readiness yet.. there is a code P1000 that is sitting in the ECU until readiness is completed....

Now.... could you have let it sit for awhile and the battery died causing the keep alive memory to be reset and the ECU to need to reestablish readiness? Could have happened... ;-)

well more bad news on my end.....went through my paperwork and realized I was mistaking my Sho as a certified vehicle, when it was actually my newest and prior car to the SHO being certified.
So that throws any possibility of it being handled by the dealer out the window......

Has anyone everyone ever had piston removal work done while the engine remained in the car ?

Not much of an update at this time.....I could rebuild it but I don't have the time or space to take on that level of work at this time. I have made several calls to various shops and found that for some reason, they wont take on the work of a rebuild on these engines, they only do the full engine swap.

So I've done my research on new and used motors, found that a shop will drop a used motor in for about $ 5k, with a 3 month warranty, or a new motor from Ford for $ 7k with a 3 year unlimited mile warranty.....to me the $ 7k is a no brainer.
Either way the repair is costly since it isn't covered under the warranty, so its been sitting in my garage until I decide to pull the trigger and have the work done.

The car actually runs, although like crap, it still runs, so its movable as needed, so that's a good thing.

Short block is $5,500 from LMS... that's just the price of the short block... not installation shipping etc...

So I was finally able to get my car into a shop for some further diagnoses and the worst case scenario was discovered.
They did a leakdown/compression test and found # 4 piston lands were collapsed which is obviously the reason for the steady misfire....I'm surprised the car is still actually running.
I haven't researched anything yet through Ford, but my vehicle is a 2011 Certified with 76k miles, so what I see in Fords Certified warranty is that , "All internal lubricated engine components", so sounds to me like the issue should be covered ????
I am going to start a claim through their Customer Assistance Center and see where it goes, but this gives me a glimmer of hope.
I hope they don't blame the tunes for the compression loss. Let us know how it comes out.

yes , I was quoted $ 7k for a new long block, which i believe even includes the intake, old motor pulled and new one installed , all labor out the door.
Obviously i would probably replace a few things like belts, hoses, etc, while its out so that may add a few bucks...but i didnt think it was too bad ?

Ive checked on performance upgraded blocks from livernois, summit and Ford performance, but then you start running into issues like replacing the wiring harness, Pcm reflashing, etc....which could run into added labor, and doubtful most shops would go that route.
In the end it would tend to get expensive......My nuts are already hurting from the $ 7k pricetag :(

At this point there isnt proof that the added HP from the tune caused the issue. I assume the piston was weak or had a stress crack in the land, so im sure the added HP added to the failure, but cant say for sure it was 100% to blame ?
