Both of these colors are my personal favorites. My question is for future dings and scratch can these colors with the metallic able to touched up? I'm certain a quality body shop can do it but for the average DIY joe like me, I'm wondering if I should stay away from these.

I don't see the problem if you use quality touchup paint (OEM, Dr Color Chip, etc), assuming the touchup IS just touchup and not paint correction.
One thing to watch out re color selection though is that some of the ruby reds (beautiful color BTW) seem to show orange peel excessively, there is an ongoing discussion elsewhere about that. So check your car of interest thoroughly

The tricoat white is a ****** to match , I had a discolored plastic part on my tri coat white on my fusion , the body shop that deals with ford had to re-do it about 5 times to match the color of the car. this is NOT a DIY color.

I have a Red Candy Flex. It touches up pretty good. If you're good at touch-up it shouldn't be a big deal. The pearl colors are much harder to touch up. Think about 3M or another brand of clear wrap for the front end and behind wheels. Might be a good investment to stop chips.

I don't understand the fascination the factories have with metallic paint. Can't EVER match it after body repair!! Why I liked the new '99 SHO I bought, it was straight black.
IMO, the white rocks!! Red is too much like the Ford red of the last 20 years. I've seen a few Explorer Sports in white and I like them a lot!!

If you're talking primarily of small stone chips and the occasional door ding, the white is probably going to be easier to touch up and not be noticeable. The red will show more of a "shadow" where the chip is touched up. I had both a Plat White tri-coat metallic (2004 Mercury Mountaineer) and a Red Sangria metallic (2010 Lincoln MKZ) and the Mountaineer took much better to stone chip touch-ups. But, the white tri-coat was A LOT more expensive from the paint shop than the Red Sangria ($185 for 1/2 pint white and pearl versus $26 for half pint for the red). The store I got my paint mixed at provided me with these handy little tape cards so I could layer the pearl up to 7 layers, then put it on the OEM panel in good light and pick the number of pearl layers that matched. I painted the rear bumper cover that housed the backup sensors. For my sprayer settings and painting style, 2 coats of white and 3 coats of pearl matched perfectly.
