My mistake for inviting in "a voice of reason" - it often gets interpreted as asking for a "reason to argue" and things devolve from there. Sorry guys.

Still no numbers or run down on rebuilding a SHO V8 - I'm beginning to think it's a secret society and I don't know the handshake. Do I need to buy someone a drink first?

Thanks James.

I was guessing something around there and that doesn't bother me too much as long as it doesn't take months to track down all the needed bits. I don't want this to be another long term or unfinished project.

But higher power can certainly be had for the money. And I guess I've missed the threads talking about the difficulty of forced induction tuning of the V8.

I'm heading up to Tom's tomorrow to see what he has in the shop.

I'm still plugging away at my car. The reason there isnt many FI V8's is because nobody worth a **** at tuning ***** with the V8's. Eric, sorry, but your car is mail order tuned. Which mine will be too. Until someone breaks the binary codes, the V8 guys are just hosed. I'm working on this. I know of a gentleman who can break the binary, its just a matter of will he do it....

Doug IS "Worth a ****, IMNSHO." And those that have followed, and BORROWED from him, would do well to give credit where credit is due.

Maybe you can explain how someone borrows from Doug?

Just a sample of what can be done.

No offense, but at this point I don't think there is a car or truck out there that has not had a LSx swap. I think I would go unique as well like the OP is looking to do. If it is your car, it is a beautiful car with a clean swap.
Not too many people interested in swapping these engines into things anymore which makes it more interesting to me.

You want original? There's a recently wrecked 2010 SHO with 13k on the clock, took a front end hit but Kirk can rebuild it for ya and you'll be the first.

Nice XR - is that's Jim DeBerry's car? 3 valve motor, Outkast grill/headlight/front bumper cover - that's what Jim said he's currently running along with a T56.

I talked to him a couple of weeks ago about his parts for the 4.6 swap and it's the most bang for the buck with the easy availability of 4.6 DOHC's and Cobra T45's around here.

I really want to do something with the SHO V8 and if I could find a properly running one for a grand I might try it. But the effort to resurrect a cam failed engine doesn't make sense when I can get a running 4.6 DOHC for under $300.

Sure it can be done

Throw enough cash at a project and anything can swapped. Several examples running around all over the place (just saw a Hemi in an XKE, 350 in a 914 Porsche that looked factory and an MGB with 351) but the V8 SHO motor is not an easy one to tinker with. By the way, my Whoosh has a mail order tune from Doug that took a couple of variations since I upped the injectors to 36# and installed the modified PWR liquid intercooler, but the wide-band O2 took a dump on me so the dyno-tuning was out.

How many miles since adding the supercharger and/or any complications - besides squeezing it in? And other than O2 sensor issues has your "tune" held or have you had glitches?

As far as the other transplants you mentioned, I got rid of my 914 chassis to get the XR. It was slated for my Rover V8 but I've since sold off most of the stroker parts I had collected for that project. Now I just need to replace a head gasket, a wheel bearing, rebuild the air suspension valve block and get the Rover sold to finance the XR project.

Got some miles on it

Had Knight Engineering fab-up the shaft since he did the original 2.5 blower. I have to admit it (the jack-shaft drive and blower mounting) was weak (failed before I left Miami where it was fabbed at) and took two later modifications I designed before I could feel comfortable (much larger mounting bolts and pulley mountings on the jack-shaft). I have 110,000 plus on the engine since boosting (one new lower end when pistons melted at the 48,000 mile mark after a 165 MPH blast past a Cobra when I took my foot out of it), and another melted ring-land on a donated 90,000 mile block from NESHO when I thought I really needed to see 176 mph on the GPS (did 192 on a R-1 just days before in the same location). Total miles on this car is 214,000 miles.
Hope it answers your question. Blown SHO's sound so cool. Hard to keep your foot out of it.

Great info, that's the kind of useful feedback I'm looking for. And I know what you mean about the sound, it's what has me hooked on forced induction for the XR project.

My Jag Super V8 (supercharged, long wheel base) has brought me 3 photo radar tickets in 4 months and killed one set of Pirelli P-zero Rossos that I used to love lighting going around corners. It gets up and moves for a 4100 lb old man's car - qtr mile best of 14.22 so far but I haven't tried a top speed run yet.

Let me know when you want to try that and I'll get it on video for you. For the first 1/4 mile I could film it from my buggy. After that I think we'll need a jet fighter or something.:hail:

Tom that 1st quarter mile would be filmed mostly from your rear view mirror but would be a nice panning shot as I eventually passed you!

And Tom, if I pick up a Mark VIII for its motor would you want the IRS for your Locost project? I can't remember what you had on the bench but I'll swap for XR parts.

I'll need a front bumper and cover and could go with the biplane wing if you want to part with it. And I have a clean exhaust on mine if your son wants/needs one for his - that is if your pile of spares or spare car don't already cover those needs.
