I really think I might like this car in the next 1 to 2 years as a lease or purchase. We really have not talked about this car on the forum much in the last year. I was wondering about thoughts on this Maurader. Am I still in the GENII area here?

i like it but its to big. I dont want a big car like that. Too boxy looking the gran marquis and the crown victoria need a redesign. The cars are not matched up with any of the german cars or to cadilac i would stay wit h the SHO's this is just my opinion

Yeah, it is a bigger car than I am used to. I went by the dealership today and there were two Marauders on the lot..the dealer was closed so I took my time. Still though, they kind of get your heart pumping. Big American steel.

I like it also. I just wish it has the 380hp Ford Lightning motor instead of the Mustang motor. 302hp is not enough for such a heavy car.

That is interesting...I wonder what the 0 to 60 time is for the Mauauder actually...I have not seen it tested in the magazines.

I got a mercury Marauder test right here. It is MotorTrend July 2002. It says
0-30 2.62
0-40 3.78
0-50 5.19
0-60 6.89
0-70 8.89
0-80 11.30
0-90 14.44
0-100 18.34
1/4 mile [email protected]
60-0 133 feet
slalom 59.5

4165 lbs
its a hog. It shows in slalom. I wouldn't like a car this big. It may look nice but it doesn't haldle very good. I think the SHO may be slower in a straight line but on a track the SHO is still the king. Im gunna stick with my SHO until Mercury gives it 50 more hp and better suspension and, my god loose some weight.

Next year it gets a blower.

Then we'll talk about next SHO.

Remember, it's supposed to recall the musclecars of days gone by, not outhandle a Ferrari. For what it is, it does a great job, and name another domestic with those kind atrtributes in a full size car under 40 grand right now.

Where is all the weight coming from, solid steel?

Not even a new Lexus GS430 which is big compared to a SHO weighs that much, I believe it tops out at 3700lbs.

full frame, live rear axle, heavy rear driveaxle, big wheels, heavy tires, big motor, big tranny, big power seats, full size spare, alot of glass. That's where I can attribute most of the weight. There will never be a light marauder, you'd just have to do too much to do it!

Thanks SHO5. It looks like the Maurader will blow the doors off a stock GENIII SHO on pure acceleration. Looks like about .5 seconds slower than my 5.0 Mustang from the early 1990s for that matter in 0 to 60. And this car still captures my interests.. It looks strong and stealthy and is kind of cool. You could drive this car over to your grandmother's house and all the relatives could identify with it's all-American good looks and praise you etc. They would never suspect it was a hog on the road course. .

Guess the Maurader is a cold throw-back to American Muscle. Do you guys think the Iraq and Afghanistan **** offs would understand this principle? I do not either. This is a true all-American heavy yet still a performer. After all consideration I think it it a great step forward. Let's give it two more years and watch it mature.

Nice car, but 35K? Kinda high for a parts bin car. Police spec springs and shocks, Rear airbags from the town car, brakes from the Lincoln and a retuned Mustang Cobra engine w/ 302bhp. Still an overweight frame on body design. I'll bet it is still a blast though.

Had a '99 Crown Vic when I worked full time for the S.O. Now if the county would just go to tme Merc........ Last I checked they are running front wheel drive Impala's. I guess I will stick with my F-450 Ambulance with the Power Stroke.

I spent many years living in West Nashville Tacmedic. That is a great town...wish we could find enough GENIII guys in the area to do some meetings.

I know this past weekend I was traveling on I-16 and notice a police car wip out and around two car and I mean this car was hauling --- (You know what). So I slowed down cause he was flashing the lights and the ole radar was at full blast. So as I cruise up to it at 55mph. All I see was the wig-wags and light in the window and a very, very low profile lights on the roof and as I look over the word sheriff was on the sside of it and these nice chrome wheels and nasty exhaust sticking out the tail end. This was not no Crown Vic the way it shot out there I looked at it and it was a 2003 Mecury Maurader. This cop car was bad and the way he shot out thereI know this car was fast. I said to the wife I would love to get pulled over by that car cause i would be asking the cop what do you have in there. At that point I would be asking the questions not him.So I don't know the numbers might not be the greatest but to see that car shoot out from behind two cars with lights flashing was a nice sight for me.

Oh yeah I must mention the cop got both of it men,yes he pulled over both of the cars.
