Neat, watched majority of the video. Curious if this is something that's actually necessary in our platform. Seems like majority of the issues is with the chains when it comes to oiling and even then they go their replacement interval majority of the time. Guess if you are one of the race truck guys or maybe @bpd1151 going for big big numbers this could be an integral part of the build. Anybody have thoughts or inputs on this? Not something I'm very big into and I'm sure I am over looking something.

Admittedly, I too looked over this aspect.

I have an inquiry placed with my builder.

There are pros and cons to a high volume pump.

If the engine is tight (newly rebuilt?), it just dumps the extra volume out the bypass valve. But once the engine loose is loose (high mileage) it can help keep the engine from starving for oil at low RPMs.

Conversely, it can flood the heads if too much oil gets up there.

It would be interesting to see a before-and-after with a catch can and see if more oil winds up in the PCV ;)

This. With tight bearing clearances you shouldn't need any extra flow. But with looser bearings, whether from wear or purposely for a thicker oil film, you need more flow to maintain pressure.

I have a marine 455 oldsmobile built looser for severe duty. I have to run a high flow oil pump, with 10 quart sump plus two massive remote oil filters for a total of 12 quarts 20w-50. Heads have the oil returns reworked to keep it all from dumping out the breather caps. Well-known problem on the olds rockets.

No negative effects on the cam phaser/ control solenoid? (At work right now so I haven't had a chance to watch the video). Our engines are early technology, but to some degree if the pump has any effect on pressure I can see it possibly wigging things out.

I've had oil pressure issues, but I've got over 200k on the clock. HV pump wasn't out yet when I did mine, so I replaced it with OEM, I have not run a gauge on it since, maybe I'll give it a go to see what pressure the OEM pump is doing on a now 227k mile engine.
