I'm still planning on coming to the meet, but if severeal heads start backin out I may also. And yall had better still be bringing all these sweet cars :3gears:

SHO meet update

ashley, I am going to nominate you as the official Tidewater SHO "enforcer". gentlemen, don't **** her off ...

On another note, talked to Russ H. in Durham, who is bringing his 94 green 5-speed SHO. Also Chirs M. from Charlotte confirmed yes (93 5-speed w/ 18"). Tanya F. (89 5-speed champagne) no luck has to work -- next year Tanya!

Borrowed a hemet for track use (XL, DOT approved) which we can share among the novices.

Who has a decent stopwatch or something we can use for timing laps? Running at 60 mph, ~ 88 ft/second, a comfortable lap (1980 ft, 3/8 mile) ought to be in about 22.5 sec, at 80 mph, ~ 117 ft/second, should about 16.8 seconds, etc.

At my place, we will do lunch on the fly. I will have some stuff to eat, or pizza/takeout. Get fuel. Probably about 2:20pm we will head out to the track, 35 min away by convoy. Will put together some maps for us. Once there, we get organized, Terry does driver's safety talk, final safety check of racer's cars. Then we start some one-car practice runs, followed by timed runs. We can then do some single car elimination-style competition -- Terry you are in charge of this. From there on out it is ad lib.

Looking forward to Sat, this should be a great time.

Map to OCS speedway and my place

Map to my place below. Basically, coming from the west, follow I-40 towards Raleigh (not Durham) to the Right when it branches from I-85. Third exit is 86N, Airport Rd or MLK blvd. Exit, R at top of ramp, left at 3rd light (Weaver Dairy), pass shopping center on R, through stoplight, 2nd right is Cedar Hills Drive, R at stopsign, we are top of hill at R, #80 white house w/lattice porch and garage. Don't park across the street on the grass (psycho neighbor), only on my side of the street or in driveway.

From the East, I-40 W, pass 15-501 exit, next one after long climb is 86N, left at top of exit ramp, etc.

Also, here is how to get to the speedway. Start at I-40 and 86N (my exit, 266), west on I-40 to 40/85, the off on US 70 East. Towards Hillsborough, left at light 86N, the immediate R on 57 NE. Drive for 20 min, track on the L (can't miss it). You get to 15-501, you just drove past.

SHO meet next Sat

I am thinking around 9am or 10am, for the local folks, but won't be in full swing till mid-day or early afternoon as some people are coming from several hours away.

Great! I'll be able to make it on the 5th. I'm currently vacationing on the "outer banks" and trying to figure what to do as the storm gets closer. Wish me luck and keep this area in your prayers.

stay for it. It is awesome, and you are pretty safe out on the OBX as long as you stay out of the water (rip currents) also, if it is only a catagory one or a tropical storm (which i have a feeling it will be), you may lose power for a bit, but i have stayed through cat3's before (i am an hour in from the beach but still on the water)..and all was fine, just some downed trees. You may want to stay unless it is mandatory evacuation, which means there will be no fire trucks/ambulance/police service available to you if you don't leave. if it is only voluntary evacuation I would probably stay unless the hotel/cottage/ where ever kicks everyone out....it is a fun thing to witness...the main problem is in Hatteras where the beach roads tend to flood out if it hits at high tide, but there is still the main highway next to it that is usually fine. let us know your plans.

Lol @ Sam

To my fellow Redskin in the OBX: Stick it out if you can, don't let Mother Nature screw you out of time you paid for (if you did). I stuck it out on Topsail Island a few years back during Hurricane Charley and it was a great experience. At one point myself and a few friends went up to the third floor and opened a balcony sliding door on the side of the house where we were not facing the wind. I've never had so much fun throwing crap out the door and into the wind, it REALLY took off. We were throwing Oreos clear across the island and into the sound from practically the beach front. We also found an opening between two buildings along an outdoor walkway, it was like a jet blowing through. If you held on to the railing behind this hole and relaxed your legs it just about took your feet out and you could hold tight horizontally. Ahhh simple excitement :nut:

Beat the G-men! :salute:
