my car seems to have the poor IAB symptom of dropping to 1300-1400 rpm from load, and then creeping down to maybe 1200 in neutral and on to 8-900 only during a stop or long neutral coasts.

i cleaned my iab out today with some carb cleaner and reset idle but it doesent seem to have cured the issue.

the mechanism wasent really sticking, but was fairly gunked up. i dont know if i was supposed to try and pry the section sandwiched between the TB and IAB loose and de-gunk that or not.. i did spray liberally and wipe down the two ports exposed after removing the IAB.

and my ford dealer said they cant source a new one and to try a auto wrecker.. ?!

heh any ideas about a solution to the idle issue or fining the part (already emailed fpn btw)

Do you have an MTX? What you are talking about seems to be that you are driving along, take the car out of gear, and what you said happens.

If so, it is supposed to do this. Mine has done that all its life. My IAB went bad (wouldnt start unless gas pressed, would not idle when pressing the clutch in, etc.)

When you press the clutch in say at 3K rpms, the IAB opens early and keeps the rpms up around 1200 for me until I stop (VSS I believe tells the computer) or slowly drops if I cost for a long time. I believe it does this so you have better steering, more charge from alternator, etc. You wouldnt want to be doing 110, press in the clutch and then the steering go kinda stiff because your car idles low.

yeah mtx, my bad for not specifying

cool, good info. i thought i had read somewhere that it meant the unit was going bad?!

on the plus side my car does seem to run cooler now.. i can lay my hand on the intake after a decent 40km highway jaunt. before cleaning iab i had bad heat soak onto the intake although coolant would seem to stay in med-high range.

thnx for the response.
