Ok, as some of you might know my car died yesterday and I had to tow it home. I assumed the CPS sensor was at flaut. My battery ended up being dead later that night (battery is pretty weak.) Well I put a charger on it all night and then with a twist of a key the SHO fired to life. I drove around the niegborhood for less than 5 min. and it died again. I can confrim the fuel pump working cause of the brubble back there. When I crank the key the SHO wont fire, but the tach will go up to about 500-600 rpms. I am maybe thinking that the Alt. is not working and the engine is going off the battery ontill it is dead? Wouldn't this normaly give me a battery light if the alt. is not working? What do you guy's think?

Thanks

Sean

Or you could just have a bad battery with very low current storage capability. When the engine is running, check the voltage at the battery. It should be above 13 volts, if not, your alternator is suspect.

Do what Scott said first check the out put of the Alternator and batt. If the car is running and the alt should supply no less than 14.5 volts. If you have the means to get ahold of an amp clamp the car running with absolutly nothen else electrical on it should be 10 to 13 amps. You can also check the draw off the Batt with the engine off/key off, should be less than .5 amps. But don't throw the old fuel pump idea out the window. I of couse could go much further than that but once or twice I could not get my car to start from the get go due to the Texas heat. Also your pump could be in worse shape than mine was and binding up much quicker. If you can hear your pump making a whinning sound its probably about to go. Good luck and let is learn from what you find out.

BTW I never new my pump was the problem till it did this for about the 8 time on my way home from a 900 mile trip just 600 miles into the trip on Saturday. Luckly there ahppen to be a ford dealership in the middle of knowhere Mississippi. They from the get go said we think its your pump, and $560 and 3 hours later they were right. So the moral of the story it will fail you when your not I a position to tell ford to F**%&^%( off. I could have probably let it set for several hour and drove home either the next morning or late that evening when the outside/road temp had went down
