Can you get the codes for us? It will help us out big time when trying to figure out whats wrong. Check my sig for instructions on how to do this.

Yes, could be the CPS, could also be the CID (much easier to fix). Should have a better idea once you pull your codes though, as it could also be a fuel problem or something.

heres a great tip from Michael (F-22 Raptor SHO -taken from This Thread ) about checking fuel pressure...

F-22 Raptor SHO said:
The fuel shrader valve is on the top of the motor. Look at the snakes and see the fuel rail that runs from left to right...there is a little black cap you can take off. Looks just like a tire valve. I had the same problem you did with the same symptoms. Your pump sounds like its bad. Codes wont always show it being bad.

A fuel pressure tester is like 40-50 bucks. I used my 3.00 tire pressure gauge (the lollypop looking one). It worked fine. In some cases it may not. Dont expect the gauge to last with gas in it as the gauge seals go bad, but for 3.00, who cares?

When the problem occurs again, pull over. pop the hood and put the gauge on the valve. Have a passenger turn the key on but keep the engine off. You should get a fuel reading of about 30 psi. If your pump is junk, you will get barley 10. If the car starts, you should have 40 psi at WOT. I had 5 psi with the key one and 10 when it started and choked.

You see what is happening is the pump is weak...gets hot from driving, goes bad for a bit...you wait as you are on the side of the road....it cools, and you drive home.

..also, you should hear an audible whine from the pump while it primes the system when the key is turned to "on"

good luck, and get those codes!

PS. The link in Ishodu's sig for checking codes is very helpful, easy to understand...i used it the first time i checked my codes..i'm a firm believer of the little flashing CEL animation.. :thumb:

haven't been able to run the codes due to the car not being at my house and working 9-7 everyday. it sounds alot like a combination af the cid and fuel problems due to when the car gets warmer, it usually dies. my guess right now is that when it's getting warmer it's running too lean maybe due to lack of fuel pressure.

I remember one time my car wouldnt start. Sometimes it did, sometimes it didnt.

The positive terminal on the battery was rusted so bad it was practically hanging off.

I doubt you have the same problem.

You don't need a code reader, just a short jumper wirte or even paper clip. Check the link in my siganture for the testing procedures and code descriptions.

alright. couldn't get my car started so i couldn't get all the codes. i got 14 and 49. other than that nothing. my guess is not the crank position sensor, but the crank sensor(ekp)? Anyone else have any ideas. fuel pressure by the way is good.

Does the check engine light stay on when you crank the motor?

When the light stays on that usually means the EEC is not recieving the CPS signal. It should go off while cranking the motor.
