If you want to handle the best at the track, if you want to handle the best on the street and you're only using these tires in the summer, there is no further need to post. headbang

Like others have suggested, call Tire Rack and tell them exactly what kind of tire you are looking for. They'll steer you in the right direction (no pun intended) and they carry a very full line of full-out competition/autocross tires. There are many to choose from, and remember that more money doesn't always buy a better tire (though, I must admit that it usually does)

If you're asking for the "best" performance on the street, strip, and track, you're already asking for a compromise mix, so you need to balance your desires accordingly. If you want the "best" tire for autocross it's going to be different than the "best" tire for the road course, and they're both going to be different than the "best" tire for the drag strip, and only you know what you mean by "best" tire on the street.

I'd second the mention of the BFG g-Force tires. I have these and use them on the street and on road courses. The set on the car now has seen about 5 track events and are still holding up very well. I've been *trying* to burn them off at the track and it's incredible how long they're wearing. Despite being performance street tires when they're warmed up they're tacky to the touch like full race tires.

And they're great in the rain (I have KDWS on right now and want to switch to KDW, KDs are even better but not available to fit the slicers). My last track event was in the rain and they were amazing.

If you want to use them up so that they're bare at the end of the summer, get a full race or autocross tire, depending on what you really want. They'll have the most grip, but you need a different tire (race/autocross/drag) depending on whether you want them grippy cold or warmed up, etc. As usual, there are engineering tradeoffs to make if you really want the "best" in a particular application.

SHOTIME:
Flaken Azenis's

R rated compound, Found to be better than the Bridgestone S-03's.

I had them on SHOTIME. GREAT tire.. sick in the twisties. :)

I've had experiance witha 300hp Turbo FF Laser on these tires, and not only do they grip AWESOME in the twisties for track days and summer cruising, but they performed pretty good as slicks when the car was taken to the 1/4 strip. Also, they're priced quite nicely. If you want something a little better suited to the road, I'm running Ultra-High Performance Falken FK451 GR-B's on my 3G, and they stick so good it's scary. Both rain and shine.

Damn i was looking at those Yokohama A032R on tire rack i think it was and the treadwear rating was 60. Does anyone know if that is right or not? Those tires wouldn't last more then a summer if that is right.

That's right. But if you want max performance on the track and street, it's the way to go.

But if not, Potenza S-03 or Kumho Ecsta MX is your next best bet. boink

What ever happened to Michelins?? I just got the z-rated pilots, hopefully the last compared to Goodyears.. NEVER get the Eagle GA or GT series, expect 15k max lifespan.. (holding a grudge)!

Alright here are the choices of tires now Bridgestone S-03 pole positions or the S-02, Michelin Pilot Sport's in 225/50/16 or the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 in 225/55/16. Or does anyone recommend the Toyo's.

i just got some Yokohama AVS ES100 225/55/ZR16 on my SHO (thanks for the recomendation rick). i haven't had enough time behind the wheel to fully evaluate.

but, they handle like a **** and i can't break the tires loose in first any more (time for more power :D )

of course everyone at wheelworks was making fun of me for having all the chassis and suspension stiffeners on the car while running bald Remington XT120 215/60/R16. pretty lame on my part.

i read the reviews on tirerack. basically weekend warriors love the tire. very civilized. many use them as their wet tire when opentracking in the rain. but most serious guys said it's a great compromise tire for daily driving and can take abuse as well. but not on the level of pole positions or S03s.

a muscle car guy said his LS1 WS6 never handled so well, but he's going to get rid of them because they can compare to the BFG g force KDWs on straight line hauling. which i understand as the g force is basically their drag radial with a slightly harder compound. the blocks are HUGE on that tire.

bottomline, if i had a supercharged SHO, id only run g force KDWs or Falken Azenis as street tires. the ES100s would be Spinville.

see ya,
Robby

I agree Robby, I just put a set of ES100's on the 92 and the forward bite is much better than the last few sets of Dunlop SP8000's I ran on that car. At $81/tire you can't beat the price either. Haven't had a chance to push them 10/10th yet, but they are quiet and smooth on the hwy. We'll see what kind of treadwear they get...
