Alright after installing a new starter and then changing my oil I have run into another problem. While driving to school I notice that there was a large amount of smoke behind me when driving, when I came to a stop there was smoke coming out from underneath the hood. I turned that car around and put it back in the driveway, all along the way the temp was rising but never hot above 3/4 before I turned off the car. I got out and opened the hood to get a face full of smoke. I noticed that it seemed to come from the drivers side of the bay. Well I put more coolant in and when i started to get the radiator full it started pouring out of the car, somewhere near the oil pan. Any ideas on what exactly is my problem. I have not been able to really get a good look being that its dark out but any help before I start exploring would be great

Close to the oil pan could be one of the two coolant lines by the oil filter(that feed the oil cooer). I'd check those first.

Would those leak without running the car, as in just pouring coolant in or would the car have to be running.

Upon further inspection of the car I have found the leak to be dripping from near the back of the bay, somewhere both behind and above the oil pan. I cant seem to see it for sure however is seems to pour out of there and then drip on everything on its way down.

SASHO91 is talking about the 2 hoses behind the intake connected to the firewall, which go to/from the heatercore. I've had problems with both before so I'd check 'em both out at both ends. If it's not them I'd look at the hoses connected to the throttle body. They can be hard to see so it may be difficult to tell if one is disconnected or leaking.

I guess my next question then is, do they normally come disconnected or do they just start wear down and obtain leaks.

They don't normally disconnect.

Another thing you might want to look for, and I have no clue where exactly in Ohio you are or how cold it's gotten there, but if you can't find any bad hoses you might take a look at your freeze plugs.

P.S. Hey Bill!

Sending you a PM.

They become stiff & can crack but usually the tube they connect to gets corroded & causes a leak. Check the 1.5" rubber hose that connects the frt & rear coolant manifold together as this can also be a leak source, along with all the throttle body coolent hoses.

Hi Beth!! Can you call me?

Alright well I am assuming that it is most likely the heater hoses but what is the best way to get to these. Top, bottom??

^^^Bump bc I got my leaks fixed up front and on the manifold now the back is leaking. Gotta love how the cold shows you what needs to be replaced.

You should replace all the coolant hoses on any car as old as these or replace them one at a time and deal with the hassles.

I agree with replacing them all but, I kinda need to figure out the easiest way to do the main problem at the moment. I would like to get to that first and then work from there.

You're right but, sometimes time and patience (too cold) becomes an issue and that didn't answer BTBET329's question. Better angle of attack top or bottom?

Well of course I can understand that, but with the hassle of draining the system and refilling properly you should do it all at once. Otherwise time will pass and another hose will blow and you'll have an Oh shit moment. Hopefully you won't ruin the engine.

But if you do I have one for sale. :)

I know have two spares myself. a 3.2 all ready to go into a mtx and a normal 3.0. Thinking of going to pull apart and pulling the another 3.2 and 3.0 before they get crushed for 120.26 each.

If they're just laying around the wreckers down there, grab me a 3.2. I'll get my buddy in Ark pick it up from you...

That is all understandable but out of the last 7 post i still do not have an answer as to what the best angle of attack is to get the heater hoses out. Thats what I want to hit first, I have these hoses in hand and would like to get them replaced then check out the other hoses as some have already been replaced
