Seller likely is misinformed, or has no clue altogether.

The only difference I am aware of, when it comes to those sensors, at least from a physical standpoint, is that early model year offerings were secured with two individual screws. One on either side.

Starting around that 2013 model year, the bean counters began monkeying with various things. Trying to cut costs wherever.

As such, the sensor in that year had a guide pin that protruded vertically out of/from the top of the intake plenum. FMC then used one screw to hold it down instead. Yes, one screw.

That's how ridiculous it became. Cost of one screw, at 'X' amount of units produced/sold.

I can't imagine it saved them all that much.

You are likely to get just as much c*** from a dealer as on eBay. Unless you know the parts counter person personally. Many have run into this issue before.

Don't knock it, in terms of volume, it can save a lot of money. For example, Levi cut production cost by removing 1 belt loop on their jeans. If I recall, it was worth about a penny saved. Across several million productions, it became several million saved. It does add up.

Is it dumb? Absolutely. You can thank shareholder primacy for that.
