I posted this earlier but did not get any good responses so i'll try again. About a week ago i lost reverse so the other day i went out so see if i could force it in and maybe it would just go. Well since doing that it is very hard to move the shifter to the left when in neutral and impossible to move it to the right. It slides up and down from 3rd to 4th just fine its just going side to side is whats hard. So i started taking off the black box that sits underneath the car where the shift **** goes down. I havent finished yet because the exhaust pipe is in the way and it needs to be taken off in order for the box to be removed and inspected.

My question is, could the problem be inside there or is it a transmission problem? Also what can i do about it?

I am assuming you are talking about the 95 so you have a rod shifter. Is there any grinding?

yes its a 95 with rod shifter, no grinding its just super hard to move the shifter side to side in neutral but going up and down its fairly smooth

Sounds like something is binding in the linkage. If it still shifts into gears smoothly, it can't be syncro/clutch related. Anywhere within neutral shouldn't, at least i can't imagine, be affected by the internals. Unless it's some type of freak input shaft problem... How/when did this start? Has it gotten gradually worse w/ time or was a sudden? Give us a story to work with.

it started off with reverse going in and out really hard, then it would not go into reverse at all. I thought maybe forcing it in would break something loose and it would get fixed, well when i did that is when it wouldnt go over to 1st and 2nd and was really hard to move in neutral. Thats why i think its a bent something
