Just finished the install of a rebuilt 3.0, and all was well for the first 10 Miles. After that, the SHO developed a MAJOR oil leak!!! There is a steady stream runnig off the lower rediator hose housing!!!. Could this be an oil galley plug, or the oil pump??? PLEASE HELP!!!!!! shrug

I'll vouch for that. The front bank intake camshaft seal leaks down to the lower radiator hose. If it is running as heavily as you stated, the seal may have come out or not been installed in the first place.

So the camshaft seals could cause a constant stream of oil to run off the lower rad housing??? I'm talking 1/2 qt in 5 minutes on the ground!!! oh_my

Or a valve cover seal. Check the semicircular plug of the seal that fills the hole of the front bank exhaust camshaft. Also run a paper towel under the front edge of the front valve cover. Is there any oil in either of those areas? That would be a poorly installed front valve cover.

Help us out. What was involved with the rebuild?

The rebuld consisted of rings, rod & main bearings, complete gasket set, 60K service, and new roll pins in the tranny's diff.

I can't imagine a valve cover gasket, or camshaft end seal leaking this steady of a stream of oil at idle.

If you ever had to run your engine with the valve cover removed, you would understand why so much oil can leak out.

Well in the old style engine with overhead valves and rocker arms, you had to adjust the valve with a screwdriver and wrench. After we did the adjustment, we would fire up the engine and make sure everything was right. The rocking motion of the rocker would throw oil all over the engine compartment. If we had one a little too loose, you could hold the rocker against the pushrod while the engine was running and it would quieten up. It was very messy but in those days we would just put baggies over the alternator, distributor and coil and hit it with the car wash nozzle.

AHHHH! The good ol days!
