My 93 ATX recently started making a major clunk noise from the front end. I replaced the motor mounts, tie rod ends, ball joint/control arm units and still have the noise.

When I start off from a stop it makes one loud clunk and then there is no more noise until I stop and start again. If I turn to the left as I start to go it is louder on the left, if I go to the right it is louder on the right, if I go straight it is louder in the middle.

Any Ideas, Thanks, Jason

I would inspect your subframe bushings as a primary cause. Your other options would be endlinks (which I doubt with these symptoms) or the subframe 'sleeve' for the strut rod might have broken and needs to be rewelded. I haven't personally had that happen so i'm not sure about its particular symptoms. But, your problem sounds like subframe bushings to me. Also, make sure your new motor mounts are still tight.

Thanks for the info guys, it was the strut rod bushings. After the work the car sounds and handles great. Now I just have to milk the tranny for about another 10k before the new one is built. Thanks again.
