How often do these need to be replaced?

After I picked my SHO up yesterday and drove it home for 2 hours, I got home and a puddle of what appeared to be a mixture of tranny fluid and engine oil formed on the ground. I keep checking the fluid levels, and they all seem to be fine. The car runs fine (except the damn AC!), and doesn't seem to be knocking, but there is definately a leak.

After getting under the car, it was apparent that it was leaking from the main seal.

Big deal?

Thanks

Rear main is a pain. Tranny has to come out. Front main isnt so bad. It could also be the oil pan gasket as well. I just did the rear main to find out it was the oil pan. Expensive mistake.

There are several places the oil can leak from. You need to find the drip trail to be sure you are replacing the necessary seal. The oil pressure sender on the back of the block below the number three cylinder, or the oil level sensor on the rear wall of the oil pan can both create a large puddle when their seals fail.

well, after crawling under it, I found the oil to be running down the ring that separates the engine and tranny, which is the main seal to the best of my knowledge. We also thought it maybe be the sender or level sensor, as I have seen that before.

The thing is, the fluid is watery like like the 5w30 that is in it, but has a red tinge to it, which suggests that there is tranny fluid mixed in. But, one time the oil level light came on, and the level was perfectly fine. Of course, it could be multiple things. We'll find out for sure when I bring it in on friday.

It isn't lossing alot, and is losing less everyday.

Now to get this damn AC fixed!
