In the never ending list of mods for the SHO ive begun to amass parts for the Intake part of it and one being the 80mm mark viii maf.
I recently pick up an ODB II(or 96+) maf on ebay for cheap. (Yes im aware its not what i want in the sense of the sensor with the SHO being an ODB I car).

But my question is i have a 55mm maf from and car (mustang i think) laying around and im wondering, Can i simply just swap the tops? Or do i need find a 80mm specif maf sensor?
:thankyou: David.

The sensor should go with the housing, however, you can tune in what you'd like as long as everything mates up.

I have a nearly new 90mm Lightning MAF with ****** adapter I'll be listing soon.

So say im getting a Chip done by SHOsource what would i list it as if i have to 55mm top on the 80mm housing?
But im guessing i just need to keep my eye out for an 80mm top?

SHOsource probably does not have the curve for that setup and will likely not work it out for you.

So effectively Each maf top is rated for a max voltage say X volts and at X volts the computer thinks its moving Y amount of air correct?

And if you change the top to a larger Body the top will still be reading the same resistance as before but more air is acutely moving through the body?

But if all of the above is correct (Not saying it is!) then shouldnt the computer being manipulated by a chip for a 80mm mark maf understand what its reading? Or are the actual sensors completely different in the way they have the resistance tables of the hot wire that meters the air flow?

sorry for all the questions, trying to understand how MAFs differ, always was of the opinion the worked the same but just with differing housing the amount of air they tested for metering.

A MAF sensor is good to 5v. When you increase the size of the housing, it will see less flow at the same voltage as you would on the smaller diameter housing. Unless you're going to scale that MAF yourself, go with a factory setup that already have published curves.

To run an OBD2 MAF, you need a pigtail/connector from an OBD2 car. Solder it on in a straight-through fashion. Next, you'll need the MAF curve.

This information is already on this board.

Doing a lot of work to get the same result as doing a little work...not smart.

Going to the classified section and posting a wtb ad for the proper 80mm MAF...smart.
