It was suggested earlier that my MAF could use a cleaning. I searched other threads and found a few MAF cleaning references.

Generally the idea sems to be to blow MAF cleaner against a wire. Where is the wire? I removed the MAF (per instructions on can) and can look through it. I see a screen; is that the "wire"? (I thought it might be to keep big stuff out of the intake stream). Other than that I see no wire. Is further disassembly required? Is my MAF completely buggered because of no wire?

Thanks,
Rob

There are two tamper proof torx screws on the black plastic part of your maf.
unscrew these, pull the sensor out, and spray it with some cleaner(I use brake cleaner),
DO NOT set the sensor down!!! Take it out, clean it, and put it back in the alum. housing..Carefully! those wires are ruined if even lightly touched..( ask me how I know!!) good luck.:dribble:

Electronics Cleaner works well too. Do NOT touch the two sets of titanium wires; they are VERY fragile. Just let the spray from the can clean them. let them hang dry facing down as all cleaner residue can drip down off the hot/cold(titanium) wires and sensor.

You can also remove the screen by taking out the snap ring then spraying the filaments down with out removing the sensor from the housing.

Those security torx are a real pain. I had one MAF that had size 5.5 or so metric bolts on it, the other has the security torx.

silver allen bolts look nice. And much easier. 5mm? My goal is to convert as many fasteners to 5mm allen as possible. Maybe anodized?

it was a torx, now I have a set of safety head torx drivers to go with my non-safety head torx drivers. I needed the dremel for one of them so I was already thinking about an allen replacement, my favorite upgrade on any vehicle is SS allen head bolts (ha). Cleaned it, didn't touch the wires, let it dry off and reinstalled.

What do you know... the car still runs!

Thanks for the support, stay out of the heat,
Rob
