On my way to Dirt-Mart (Wal-Mart, to us northern folk) to pick up a new cable for my Ipod-to-stereo interface, I passed a black 93 ATX on the side of the road with the 4 ways on. I pulled up to it and started diagnosing it, but could only do so much since the guy was in kinda a hurry and had someone coming to pick him up. It was turning over and sounding kinda funny, but it wasn't starting. I though maybe the timing belt was broke, but it was getting compression. Possible crank sensor, but it actually tried to start a couple of times. Once, it actually caught and sputtered, but then died. After some deep thought, I'm thinking now a fuel pump?
Odd thing...two of the front plug wires and one in the rear were actually loose with about a 1/2 inch gap between them and the valve cover. They were factory plug wires, so it's not a fitment issue. There was plenty of oil in the plug wells as well.
No oil in the coolant, oil level was low, but not detrimental. Engine felt rather hot, and the driver said the guage was reading somewhere around the the "n", but the coolant wasn't boiling (plenty in the overflow resevoir). Didn't get a chance to check the codes, although he did say the check engine light's been on since he bought the car at the beginning of summer.
Thoughts on how I can begin helping my newfound friend?
