Friend of a friend is parting a 98 (i think) cobra mustang with a mach 1000 system in it. How much work would it be to install that mach system into a 98 SHO? The sho has the mach sound system in it too with the 6 disk changer.

As long as the plug harness from the Mustang match up to the SHO's plugs it should work. Since they are both 98's there's a good chance they'll be compatible. Do a search on aftermarket Stereo Harnesses for the '98 Mustang and SHO and see if the Harness plugs are the same, if they are you should be set!

Its not my SHO. Its a friend's and yes it does have the mach sound. The 98 Cobra has the Mach 1000 in it. Not the 460.

The Mach 1000 was an option and was only offered for like a year or 2...

With that being said, I think the parts will switch no problem. You're of course going to have to run the wires and do a little custom work there... As for mounting the speakers & subwoofer(s), I want to say that the speakers are all 2 way 6x8s...so no problem there

Good luck! Let us know how it turns out if you decide to do it!

Wow, didnt know that. i just thought it was an option for the 02+ stangs.

Im pretty sure you are correct. However, this Cobra does indeed have the 1000 system in it. It could have been a cheaper way to upgrade the sound system maybe.

Im not sure if my friend is wanting to do it or not. The stereo in his SHO is plenty for him (weird, huh?) so this was mainly a bright idea that I had all of a sudden. Im gonna try to talk him into doing it though because i have been without some sort of project for quite some time now. ;)

Classic Concepts or something like that has/had a kit for any 94 and up Mustang that if it already had the Mach 460 system, would allow an upgrade to the newer Mach 1000.
Somewhere along the line it had to have been upgraded. I have had a 95, 97, and a 98 and all had the 460 system. Would be interesting to know if they slipped some in the late 98's. I can't find that option in my Cobra sales literature anywhere. Should be doable though since the real heart of it is the wheel or trunk arch mounted sub.
