It's all about offset when you ask about rubbing... I have 18x8" Team Dynamics that I can put on my 93 and have ZERO rubbing, but with my old 17x7.5 konig reigns w/ the 245/45/17 tires I chewed the **** out of the sidewall... I think 40mm is the magic # when it comes to offset, but I'd get my fenders trimmed and resealed for precautionary measures. Oh and the 245/45's keep the speedo in check, are readily available b/c they're the stock size of the stang gt's, and to top it all off they look meaty too thumb

Yeah the toxxins have a 42mm offset.... i knew i was proabbly going to have to do some finder trimming. i was just wondering if the 245/45/17 was going to give me a big problem or not. Yeah i want to get as much meat on the rim as i can i love the look. :D

With a 42mm Offset you have to watch the inside rubbing, the outside (fenders) will probably not rub. Just watch the struts.

Yes, they will rub the strut on the rear. 235's would be OK though, or you could run some 5mm spacers. I run 235/45 on my 17 x 8 wheels, but they're 40mm offset anyway.

How wide are the rims?

If they're 7" wide, then you should probably go with a 225/45 or 225/50. 225/50 are closer to stock size, but the selection is limited. For 7.5" or 8" you could use 235/45 or squeeze a 245/45.

Whatever gains you get from the extra 10mm of width in contact patch will most likely be lost in the extra squirm from the added sidewall height. Don't concern yourself with the rubbing issues and get 235/45 tires. There's a better selection in that size anyway. boink

I'm running 245/45ZR17's on Enkie RS6 (7.5 wide) I had to trim the rear fender a little bit to stop the rubbing.
Did you have any problems up front at all???
No issues up front at all.

Honestly - in my opinion - my car handles the same with the 245's as with the 235's and rides better. I had better luck finding 245's in stock locally then 235's. I would have had to wait a week or more for a set of tires, but in the 245's had a choice of tires. I believe the 245/45ZR17's are a common Mustang size.

I agree. Also the 245s will weigh more.

That's going from a 235/45 to a 245/45 on the same rims with the same suspension setup?? NO changes? And it was noticable? You could feel a noticable, definite difference between the 2 sizes? And with the better ride, you also found no difference in handling?

There you go, proof from a member that 235 to 245 does nothing but ride better. Is it worth the time for fender mods? boink

Just get a custom widebody, and gor for 255's wink !

On topic though, I bought TSW Revo's in the 17x8 flavor, and have a set of 245/45/17 BFG Comp TA's going on them when they get here. I'll let you know then. By the way, anyone know what the offset on the Revo's is?

Yeah - that's what I said, I quess. But I did say it was easier to get tires in the 245 size then the 235 size. But, then again I'm running high performance summer only tires, not all seasons like most every one else.

I run 245/45 tires on the same 40mm offset 8.0" wide rims that Dave Kegal runs. I have to use a 2.5mm spacer to keep the tires off the rear strut tubes. With the narrower 234/45 tires this would not be a problem. I also have a set of 42mm offset 7.5" wide Konig Toxxins and just ordered a set of 235/45 comp tires for use at track events. Not sure if I will still need to run the rear spacers or not. Even with the Eibach's there is no rubbing problem with the sheet metal, not sure about the Intrax.

I also had a problem with the Earl's SS line rubbing on the inside of the front tires side wall during full turn-in. This was also aggravated by the position of the banjo bolt on the PBR calipers. A custom spring assist now keeps the lines off the tire side wall. The 245/45 tires on these 40mm offset 8.0" wide rims tend to aggressively hang out of the front fender well, but I have not had a rubbing problem. I also have the police upper strut mounts, so my front end only dropped 3/8", not the normal 1" or so drop.

And exactly how is 245/45 17 more popular than 235/45 17?? 235/45 is an extremely popular tire size!! I think I found 3 tires that came in 245/45 without a corresponding 235/45. And I found a couple of tires that came in 235/45 and not 245/45. Any Ultra high performance or max performance tire that is ANY good will come in 235/45. That has never been a problem!

Brad, i saw you at IRP on tuesday and you have a nice sho. I was the only gen 3 there, you know the black one with 18's and i noticed how lowered your car was and i would definitely get 235/45/ 17 insead of the 245/45 your sho is pretty low and i know the 245/45 will rub maybe if it wasn't as low you could get the 245/45
