My low coolant light comes on and doesn't seem to work properly. The radiator is full of coolant and also the resivior. Any suggestions on fixing this problem? I'm not to sure where the pickup on the sensor is and where its reading the level at. When my Mustang had the same light on I added coolant to the resivior and the light turned off. But now its not the solution???

The coolant level sensor is located in the overflow bottle. Pull this out and check the electrodes for corrosion, clean as necessary. You can scrape the scaly residue off with a razor, or use a mild solvent.

The LOW COOLANT light is fed by the sensor in the expansion bottle. You can remove the black portion of the cap assembly at the opening and pull the sensor element out of the bottle. You will probably find that the metal tabs at the bottom of the sensor "dipstick" are covered with crud. Try scraping the crud clear to expose the bare metal of the tabs. If the tabs are corroded into small nubs, you will need to replace the sensor. Sure is a bright light isn't it?

LOL, the longer i read the posts on these boards the more i see a pattern...There is quite a few common problems that nearly everyone seems to be having, that i am also....Ill have to check to see if the sensor in mine is dirty also...Where can you get a new one if it still does it after cleaning it?

I'm quite sure that it is a Ford only part. It's not very expensive and very easy to install.

On my '97 the low coolant light would come on upon hard acceleration. If it happened two times in a driving cycle it set the SES light. I unplugged it three years ago and no more problems. They make the overflow bottles clear so you can visually see the level.
