When I turn the steering wheel to the left there is a very loud noise, I would describe it as a grinding noise. It only happens when I turn left. Does anyone know what it might be?

I'm thinking I need to balance or re-align the wheels. Will this make the problem go away?

quickly id think 2 things

-Mudflaps grinding with tire (happens alot when the mudflap is loose)
-wheel bearing.

Go on road , like @ 40-50. turn left and right (like a drunk man) , see if the sound is there when u turn on one side when turning the other side. If yes , wheel bearing.

It's not mudflaps but it could be the wheel bearing because the sound only happens when I turn left and NOT right.

I don't quite understand your post though. Are you asking me if the sound is only when I turn left or when I turn left AND right?

if it gets worse on a left hand turn and goes away on a right, the more than likely its a wheel bearing. Just another way to try and better determine the issue

exacly , when the weight of the car transfers to one side (exemple , the right) it gives the bearing more weight and it worsens.

then you just have to determine if its front or rear.

Jack the tire off the ground and try to wobble it by hand. There should be no movement or the tire/wheel alone.

When I had bad front bearings it sounded like the brakes dragging when driving straight. Turn the wheel a small amount and the sound went away.

Rt front wheelbearing.

The bad bearing is on the side of the car opposite of the direction of the turn that produces the noise.
